No need for a lock, as long as we keep our opinions polite. You can think some ones take on the ALIEN is wrong, but as long as you don't say-
"Hey jerk, you're wrong"
but kind of say
"My dear fellow, I have to disagree with your assumptions on the aesthetic of the Xenomorph on this occasion, but I shall however respect them, and indeed fight to the death to protect your right to hold those views, on this most democratic of discussion forums"
...or words to that effect!

looks good enough to me...photoshop it with the same background and shading etc. and you've got a dead ringer.

It's a good attempt, but I respectfully disagree. If anything, that comparison merely serves to highlight the inaccuracies which give the HT Alien that weird Godzilla jaw.

Look at the distance between the top lip where it meets the dome, and the teeth. It's much further on the HT version. This gives it that slightly goofy, distended jaw look, and means that the surrounding cheeks etc all have the wrong proportions too. Shade and light wouldn't sort that out, it's a sculpting error.

All in my opinion, obviously. :peace

That huge comparison post has been re-posted thrice now (probably more, so who knows...).
We need some new pics :).

I think the figure looks menacing enough, the photos are so ugly here, they all exagerate what the toy really looks like. The photos don't accurately give you an impression of what the figure is ALL about.

I kinda take that personally. I rather like my photos. Could be I'm misunderstanding what you're saying.

I find that a handfull of members have appointed themselves the official bloodhounds on this thread. The arrogance and my Sh-t doesnt smell attitude of theses peeps is incredible. For whatever reason this thread has been kept open a long time regardless of the bickering. Moderate moderators!

I don't know about the need to moderate anything.. Sure, people aren't agreeing in this thread, but it's not really hostile or nasty either. I kinda enjoy reading people's opinions on this thing. :monkey1
This is coming from a member of the an@l-alien-accuracy (AAA) camp though.
Anyway, this figure is cool, as I've said, but I can't justify spending the money on it knowing I'd just be settling.
It's funny, the large NECA alien looks pretty horrible/inaccurate in that profile picture, but in-hand it really has a pretty good alien likeness to it (just depends on the angle). Admittedly there's a ton of room for improvement though. I view that figure with a far less critical eye, due to it being a very inexpensive, no frills toy.... I expected a lot more from Hot Toys though.

Personally, I'm just bummed about the paintjob. Movie accurate or not, having those sweet rusty highlights and color variation that the prototype promised would certainly look nice on a shelf. As he is, he just seems bland...
Funnily enough, I'm actually a big fan of the NECA Alien :). IMO, the Cinemaquette seems less accurate dare I say, at least as far as head shape goes. Yet it's still a fan-fave, it seems. Price point, overall look, and preference all determine which one(s) you'll like.

Ask, and ye shall receive...

Here are some pics I took comparing the NECA 22" figure to the HOT TOYS 1:6 "Big Chap" figure.

NECA FOR THE WIN!

I still say the mouth and head shape are all wrong on the NECA (as well as the HT) but to me they're so similar that it doesn't really matter other than the scale and paint ops which I like the HT better for.

My vote goes to the Neca. Just evokes the alien a lot more to me. HT from shoulders down is perfectly acceptable, head is too far wron.....oh why am I posting in this thread again :slap

They sucked ya back in, didn't they?

I think the NECA is probably one of the worst offenders in the accuracy stakes, but it's still pretty cool and it's cheap as chips. I just wish the quality of the NECA was MUCH better, it's just so wonky looking and the joints don't line up. You're also pretty much limited to the one pose. And you'll need some WD40 to unlock those ankles and knees. Lean it up against the wall because it'll fall over at the drop of a hat.:panic::panic::panic::panic:
