Actually he DID have the black smears on his face in that scene

Did he? I saw it again today and I was trying to pay closer attention to the mask/unmasked/eye black situation.

It was dark in Pierce's house so it was hard to be sure but it didn't really look like he had the eye black on. He has the mask on without the eye black in the highway/street battle until Cap knocks it off and his face is exposed. So the masked HT sculpt is accurate based on that one portion of the movie. Aside from that the most memorable scene that he's wearing the eye black is during the chase after he hits Fury and he's wearing the mask as well. The majority of the movie he has no make up and no mask.

After seeing it a second time today I think the more accurate move would have been a clean face sculpt and a masked with eye black. HT did the opposite for one of two reasons; they didn't think the figure was menacing enough with the clean maskless face or more likely they dropped the ball and went with the movie poster as reference.

If HT can make the hair sculpt interchangeable, why can't they do the same with the face mask? or would that be too easy?

Well if the alternative is having a brain aneurysm every time you look at a figure with a small detail you hate, why not fix it with 15 minutes of effort and make it the way you like it.

Because not everyone has the talent to fix it in 15 minutes. I know I don't. I'm going to be displaying him with the mask on anyways, so it's not a huge problem to me. i would like the eye black on the masked sculpt, but its not a deal breaker.

I hope they ditch the eye mascara thing on the unmasked sculpt, since he wasnt wearing any during the iconic fight scenes with Cap.

Same here! That photo above does look pretty good though...still it's an awesome figure regardless.

Probably would take me even less time to mess it up!! I dread to think of the damage that I could do to a figure in 15 minutes with a paintbrush...

It takes me just one minute to break something. sometimes just by staring at it. i dare not even attempt to pick up a brush to paint... even kindergarten kids are better at that than i am. sadly.
