Re: Hot Toys – MMS 293 & 294 Batman Returns: Batman and Bruce Wayne (Keaton) Set
I've owned/own all the DX figures except for Michael Jackson, Bruce Lee, Indiana Jones, Captain Jack Sparrow and Luke. None of the PERS have broken on my Batmen, Jokers or Terminators. Then again, I'm the type of person that moves them once out of the box to check and make sure the eyes aren't broken, then never touch them again. I know damn well that if I move the eyes on one of my Batman or Joker figures,
now, something would happen. I'm sure of it. I'd rather they be neutral then broken. I'm not going to take my chances.
With this Returns one, I love that they're not parallel. I can move them any time I want without consequence. If I want to make him cross eyed for ****s and giggles, I can do that. There's more freedom with it and less worry. Does it take a little longer to get them perfect? Sure, but I'll take that over some mechanism breaking or being slightly cross eyed.
I actually got another Batman off of ebay for a pretty great price (I want to do something cool with it). This one was a dud though, not perfect like my other ones. The sole/socket of the boot was shattered and slipped out from under the boot, the belt was unpainted in parts, gauntlet blade was missing, and the left leg at around the knee is just hanging there. My seller is great and going to contact Sideshow, so it shouldn't be a problem.
If I get a replacement, I'll take pics of what the body looks like underneath before I break it/scrap them. There's a substantial amount of fat suit, padding, foam and fabric underneath the suit. I was actually really surprised. Without all that bulk, I bet it would pose better. No idea why they thought it was a good idea to pad out the stomach, hips, shoulders and thighs. He should really be thinner and more lythe.
I mean, it's pretty nuts how intricate the tailoring is underneath the rubber suit. They have a black fabric leotard for the arms and legs. This crazy detailed white fat suit with stitched padding that replicates the squared off pectoral muscles for the armor (that's probably why that one person had a dent from Hong Kong, it wasn't stitched properly) and so many sections of padding and thread work. It makes me wonder why Hot Toys has their workers go through all that trouble WITH a highly articulated True Type body, when they don't even do the suit right and insist on making it a static, one piece rubber onsie. There's so much potential here for the perfect Batman. Had they put in all that effort into a wet suit with armor overlays like I've been saying from the beginning, it would be the same amount of work/cost
and be accurate and more articulated.
