For those with the trooper all paid up, did you get shipping notices from SS? My last payment hit on the 5th and it’s still “processing.”
I own jeweller's tools and it's not worth the effort, never mind the risk. If I had to fix one of these helmets, I'd just completely cut out the offending parts and rebuild with 3D-printed and/or hand-modeled parts, similar to @agonistes86 's excellent work on the 1/4 Vader, but given the state of Hot Toys stormie helmets at that point you might consider just replacing the whole thing.I've often tried to think of a way to cut into the HT sandie sculpt to fix the sculpt inaccuracies but its the equivalent of high-risk microsurgery where you can lose the patient with a cut that goes 0.5mm too far.
Oooh. Do you have pics of it? I have a ESB only display for OT, and I was thinking of modifying the MMS268 ANH Stormtrooper.I had a bit more success with the HT ANH bucket which I repurposed to be with my ESB/ROTJ hybrid trooper (seen only in a couple of freeze chamber shots and in ESB promo pics with Carrie Fisher.) I got that one more than 3/4 of the way to feeling accurate to my eye.
This stormie (briefly seen in ESB) has a mix of newer (at the time) ROTJ armor parts and original ANH/ESB, so it has the distinctive ROTJ chest armor. I think he's the one who Chewie throws off the carbon freeze deck.Oooh. Do you have pics of it? I have a ESB only display for OT, and I was thinking of modifying the MMS268 ANH Stormtrooper.
I honestly thought for a second that this was a lifesize suit, maybe on display at some show. Your futzing makes it look incredibly realistic! This stormie (briefly seen in ESB) has a mix of newer (at the time) ROTJ armor parts and original ANH/ESB, so it has the distinctive ROTJ chest armor. This trooper is a bit like the unique "Muppet Show blaster" Luke uses in just a couple of shots during Dagobah arrival and nowhere else, or the ANH-style Vader helmet used in the single shot of ESB in Hoth base arrival.
This helmet was just being wasted in my Luke stormie's hands (because I really didn't like it) so I thought I'd try to salvage it.

You learn something new everyday! Yep, that's very close. I know the trooper you're talking about. This stormie (briefly seen in ESB) has a mix of newer (at the time) ROTJ armor parts and original ANH/ESB, so it has the distinctive ROTJ chest armor. I think he's the one who Chewie throws off the carbon freeze deck.

Nice! I do believe this is the one you refer to? Make sure there are no visible screws on the ears! Nice! I did the same with a couple of my Hot Toys Sandtroopers, but I used Marmit's pauldrons. (Orange, White, and Black)Found just the figure on the cheap, he came without the pauldron so used stormtrooper commander's orange pauldron on him. He looks great, love the weathering, done really well!View attachment 762298
The Sergeant Trooper I did a while back before they announced the new one. I added some weathering.Nice! I did the same with a couple of my Hot Toys Sandtroopers, but I used Marmit's pauldrons. (Orange, White, and Black)
It's as if millions of OCD Freaks suddenly cried out in terror, realizing they will never be able to look at their collections the same again...Yeah, the tough part of people wanting "accurate" OT figures and accessories is the fact that prop continuity was virtually nonexistent on those films.
Eh, I'm aware of pretty much all the variations in costume/props (for example, that another trooper wears the "how long have you had these droids" trooper's armor in the wider shots in the same Mos Eisley scene, or that the "Look sir droids" white pauldron trooper is in fact the Dewback rider in publicity shots, despite the Dewback with rider being visible in the distance behind him in the movie) and that in no way impacts my desire for accuracy.Yeah, the tough part of people wanting "accurate" OT figures and accessories is the fact that prop continuity was virtually nonexistent on those films.
