The SSC was a pretty great figure placed on a terribly oversized and proportioned body. I did a complete re-do on a smaller body.

I measured the Sideshow and he/she looks to be 31cm to the top of the helmet, which is what HT are quoting for theirs.

I've always thought SS Tie Pilot (ANH) is a female because of the waist ratio...

You may be onto something with the Sideshow proportions.

Buy the HT and you can have his and hers TIE Pilots.

OMG... finally...

Two different back plates... and two different belts? I didn't even know.

Would have preferred the two different helmets.
I think it's the just the one belt included, just with/without the silver boxes added, maybe attached by magnets.

The insert plug for the back armor is a very interesting inclusion though.

These two items cost about the same price. Even though the one is a third party, it'd be nice if HT could give you more bang for your buck.

I would rather have Rogue One version with nylon flight suit, but whatever. Second pilot will be nice. Sideshow one is pretty good.

So now ... where is Death Star Trooper?

Looking through the 501st pages, and elsewhere, it appears that the 'OII' backplate was first used by TIE Pilots in Rogue One.

Meanwhile I padded my Sideshow, which was pretty easy to do. Helmet off, flip the cuirass over his neck and unzip the suit at the front.

silly comparison, comparing a third party with a licensed product.

Are you aware the shitload amount of royal fee Disney has been charging Hot Toys for making these plastic toys these years ?

Of course I'm aware licensing plays a factor. The difference in price could be because of the added licensing cost most likely. What's really unquestionable is you get more for your money with one than the other.

I suppose the point I'm making is, for the bottom end of HT prices, you're getting a bare bones figure, whereas for the same price you get more value from third party figures. But you're not going to care if you really like what HT is putting out. Just making a comparison.

It's the nature of the beast with licensing. With shipping the TIE Pilot will likely cost $70-$80 more than the DID set, which is $229 delivered from Kit.

Military figures usually feel much better value for money, while Hot Toys/Sideshow always feel overpriced.

Military figures are also a lot more fun when they arrive, whereas Hot Toys/Sideshow are often barebones and largely pre-assembled so go from box to shelf with very little interaction required.

You hit the nail on the head with this. An obvious example where licensing drives up the price is in Iron Man figures which are pretty bare compared to their other Marvel, but the price of Iron Man isn't a bit more, it's significantly more - so what are you paying for exactly, most likely the cost in engineering and licensing. I certainly wouldn't say any Iron Man figure is bang for buck or fair, it tends to be overpriced (their newest Iron Patriot, and all Gold Mark 3 for example), nothing wrong if you buy Iron Man btw, I did buy the Mark 42 after long contemplation.

Back to this TIE fighter, it's priced about the same as the Stormtrooper with Death Star dio. Knowing more about 1/6 now, $200 isn't that cheap when you know what you could get from other 1/6 brands. $200 is just what is costs for me in Hong Kong, you guys need to add extra 30% with sideshow excluding customs/taxes/tariffs/postage.

Wow, just buy a stock body, second jumpsuit and boots (all very affordable and easily found) and that's pretty much two full TG figures. Amazing set for TG fans.

You're right - HT could have just thrown in a second "stripes" variant TIE helmet and the value would have gone up a lot.

The TIE Fighter is the biggest 1/6 vehicle I've seen which dwarfs the Batwing. It was shown in 2015 in SDCC, there's no chance HT will be making the TIE Fighter I'm pretty sure.

HT could throw in a second helmet and more accessories, they just choose not to so their profit per figure is higher. Those extra accessories, even a second body aren't expensive its cheap.

The helmet looks a little large but to be fair the helmets in the movie were large.
The sleeves do look a little tight but the waist is better than on the Sideshow one.
Overall I prefer the sideshow one over the HT one but that could change if HT update it before release.

I think the extra backplate is cool but I don't remember that being on screen. If they left out the extra back plate and instead included the 3 main helmets from the movie that would make it well worth it.

Nice they include the Kenner blaster since it was an exclusive only item with the Sideshow one.

I haven't compared the two closely yet, but the HT helmet looks especially big in the little photo in the bottom right of the image showing everything that's included.

The Sideshow body did improve after I finally padded his sides this morning.

I think it's been on TIE Pilots since Rogue One, though I don't know where it was used with a regular (non shiny) flight suit.

I liked the Sideshow exclusives. Even though they're wrong they feel right because I grew up with them on the Kenner figures. I've always displayed the Sideshow TIE Pilot with his blaster, the AT-AT Driver with his rifle and Bib Fortuna with his staff.
