Scored this guy today at my local comic shop for 25% off! I'm glad I finally got it. I was on the fence about it but couldn't pass it up at that price!

You did well, congrats! It's a must have figure whether you are a TDK fan or not. I wish I had a comic shop around here who carries HT.

I forgot to add that my art box came in perfect condition all the way from British Colombia :)

I must admit there has been a lot of HT negativity in the boards of late and I have participated in some of that as well. I got so caught up in the negativity that I forgot just how good HT is at what they do. This figure is simply breath taking. It's been so long since I've gotten a HT figure I forgot just how awesome they are.

I still stand by my FOTY comment:lecture

I think the negativity is there because some people on this board and other companies are so much better at sculpting certain Actors/characters than Hot Toys. So other collectors feel spoiled, since they have seen something better and when Hot Toys does not meet the same expectations, they feel the whole company sucks.

It's been so long since I've gotten a HT figure I forgot just how awesome they are.

Personally, I am in the minority here that thinks they are way overrated. Yeah they have pretty paint jobs and give u lots of accessories and hands but that stuff just stays in the box when I buy their stuff. They are more interested in gimmicks, rather than producing better likeness and realism to their sculpts for some of their characters. Which is fine if you are that type of collector that likes to change poses and make different scenes frequently. However, some of us just want something that looks nice on the shelf.

That being said, this DX11 sculpt is not a bad sculpt and like I have said before has potential and likeness to Ledger as the Joker. However, it is certainly not the best I have seen. I guess I am spoiled to maybe?

At the end of the day they are mass produced toys. They have deadline budgets as well as being under extreme pressure to produce the goods.
Yes there are better sculpts out there from people who do this as a hobby who have the time care and skill to do it better.

There is always going to be difrences from prototypes to the mass produced item but they have been getting better at this.

The only real figure that looked like a fail to me was Indy.

I would prefer if they drop the gimmicks like pes and the backdrops and all this diecast.

Also stop trying to kick Enterbay ***. Seems they are only interested in doing 1/4 when EB stated doing it.

Go back to producing top notch 1/6 and stop buying every single licence going just to stop other companies having a crack :p

Wow so much truth said there, however, you mentioned that they have dead lines and those are the reasons there sculpts are not as good as some customs etc. Nevertheless, what about the sculpts produced by Enterbay? They pretty much nailed Bale as Batman, aren't they under the same pressure? I know Hot Toys has more licenses but right now they refuse to use most of them it is just all Iron man atm. I think the reason they are introducing diecast is to make the figure not feel like a plastic kids toy but like a person in an armor suit. However, the fact is that it is a plastic toy even with diecast parts, so I agree with you it is just another gimmick.

Do you really consider back drops as gimmicks though? I don't like them because they are made out of cardboard but if they were wooden or solid dioramas, I would be all for it!

:lol :exactly:

Well right now Enterbay have produced better likeness at 1/4 scale than Hot Toys did at 1/6th scale so I think that is why they feel threaten and have ventured into the 1/4 scale route. However, I agree it is stupid.

Couldn't of said it better my self.

Yes and no. I feel that a lot of the cost of r&d of the above just raises cost of 1/6th and they are stretching them self's to much.

Man Dx11 is sitting under my table atm and a sneak peak last night.

I have the dx1 also lots of decisions to make and how to display!!!!!

I personally like the back drops. At first I thought it was gimmicky as well, but today I picked up The Godfather figure from another member, and when I set it up with the back drop I thought it looked amazing! My only complaint is that it is quite thin, I wish it was like the joker one so it was more sturdy, but otherwise I quite like it and think it adds some life to the display if you're displaying in a Detolf or similar. Yes, a solid diorama would be a lot better, but would also cost way too much. I'm happy with the thick cardboard diorama, so long as it's done right.

I also don't see the issue with Hot Toys producing 1/4 scale figures. They are a business after all, and out to make money. Enterbay saw a market for larger scaled figures that nobody had really tapped into yet, so they took advantage of that, and it's been successful for them for the most part. Naturally, if you come up with something and it's good, your competitors will want to copy.

Much like Apple releasing the iPad, all of a sudden we have an influx of tablets from other manufacturers running a variety of operating systems. Apple saw an opportunity to tap into a market that nobody had really got into yet, and it became hugely popular. Naturally, other businesses would soon follow, as it's all about making money. Same thing with Hot Toys and Enterbay.

I welcome the addition of 1/4 scale figures from Hot Toys. As a consumer, you can't lose. It brings competition, which is good for us. So far I haven't bought anything from Enterbay as their QC sucks, so if Hot Toys can produce 1/4 scale figures with similar likeness quality in their sculpts to Enterbay, articulated bodies as good as their 1/6 stuff and better QC then I'm all for it!

Sorry I didn't understand what you were saying yes and no to? Was it about Enterbay not being under the same pressure as Hot Toys? Or did it have to do with the diecast stuff? :huh

Yeah that is ****ing stupid, I have no idea what they were thinking. :cuckoo:

Yeah I agree I can't see it as a gimmick, but I think they could give use solid Dioramas since Enterbay did when they released their first Bruce Lee figures. They didn't cost much back then, so I doubt it cost that much more to give us a figure with a solid diorama. Then again these figures are already expensive to begin with, so that is a big problem, which makes cost now a big issue here unfortunately. :(

You have mentioned business competing with each other examples which make sense. However, some people like to think of Hot Toys as not a business as such but more like a company loyal to fans that should not see the need to be competitive because they are already good enough, despite the fact that they are indeed still a business. I think some people just don't like the idea how they try to complete so much with Enterbay and they see them as a huge threat. People think Hot Toys should not try and be competitive but stick to what they use to do best, which is sculpting in 1/6th. Enterbay could not even touch Hot Toys until they started sculpting in 1/4 scale. Now Enterbay has become such a threat Hot Toys is trying to do everything in their power to smash them. Which is the only reason why they are doing 1/4 scale figures. So I don't think people including my self are against Hot Toys doing 1/4 scale figures, it is more about their reasoning behind it.
