DX Pricing
I think it should be obvious now that Hot Toys new base price for a DX figure is $260, and that's outrageous. When we saw prices like that for the '89 Batman and Joker, we all justified it to ourselves as the 'Nicholson tax' and that it would be the exception, not the norm. Then with the DX Joker 2.0 figure people justified the outrageous price because of Kato's presumably expensive custom-tailored clothing. Well now we have a figure with absolutely nothing to justify the $260 price, and yet that's what Hot Toys is asking.
To put it in perspective, four years ago I paid $145 for their first Dark Knight figure. Granted, Hot Toys has greatly improved their craft, but in terms of what's included there isn't much more here than there was in 2008. Hell, a lot of the accessories are literally identical to the original release.
Imagine if Apple doubled the price of the iPhone every four years, just because it was better than the previous models; that is not a business model that people would tolerate in any other market.
