Re: Hot Toys MMS Iron Man Mark XXI-MIDAS

Will he sell out as fast as bd mk7, that is the question on everyone's mind. Im kinda thinking he will, luckily I have off Monday so I should be ok.

It took approximately 2.5 hours for the BD Mk7 to sell out on the website. Not sure how long it took for the Avengers Mk6 to sell out as I wasn't online for that one.

I have to ask... why? Why does it makes sense?

It does if you like to fly your iron man around your house and for some insane reason need it to weigh more to make it more believable to you...

otherwise it makes no sense...

Iron. Plastic.

Same difference.

Why not.

uhhh... no.. very difference...

as for why not, ill ask why? they mastered the plastic and then with 2 major releases they decide to experiment with something theyve never done before, As well as the price increasing. for me I just dont see the need for these things to have weight to them... unless you fly them around and really want a more authentic "play" session with your toy...

as well, I really dont know what the breaking point is going to be for people, we as a community seem all too happy to bend over and get elbow deep fistings without so much as a courtesy spit from HT and SS...

First of all, sarcasm.

Next... Alright, well, two things.

1). If they mastered the plastic, it's time to move on. All great artists try new things once they've mastered a craft.

2) Visually I can tell the diference between metal and plastic. There is more to it than just weight, although once again, weight affects posing dynamics.

OK, a third thing. Bent over? Elbow fistings? These diecast figures are what, $50- $60 more than the plastic versions? If tht is your barometer between a pleasant experience and a deep elbow fisting, well, your prudishness peculiarly precedes you.

Re: Hot Toys MMS Iron Man Mark XXI-MIDAS

$50-60 on top of an already over priced $50...

well you guys who love it so much will either be satisfied or it will fail and that will be that. Im not trying to be prudish or anything and I wasn't directing all that at you, I was just saying we keep paying more and more without batting an eye and were just hurting ourselves in the longer run, I know anyone can do what they want with their money and im not lecturing them but what is the breaking point really..? I thought we would have hit it by now, but people are still finding ways to acquire these. and HT just keeps upping the prices every release

edit: and just out of curiosity, how does weight affect posing dynamics? I know weighted feet can do wonders but what else does metal add that and articulation point doesnt already achieve? honestly curious.

I totally agree.

Diecast doesn't do much of me, either. I would've preferred Mark 42 and Iron Patriot to be done in plastic at the same price as Mark VII.

Yeah or offer both, though im sure that would be a nightmare on HT's end. Im not against HT experimenting with new methods, but did it have to be with the 2 biggest releases this year..?

either way I like mk 7 way more and am pretty satisfied with my collection, after Midas and HB im all filled up

I'm waiting to see the price on Midas before I decide to pull the trigger. I like the look of him, but I have my price limits. After that, Silver Centurion will be my last, I think.

:goodpost:

The Mark 42 was the key suit of IM3 and easily my favorite. I really, really wanted to get one but I just have too many worries about the diecast to support it. I'll be sticking to plastic releases, which is why I will probably go with the Centurion.

Alright, that's fair. At least you acknowledge that even the plastic ones are overpriced. I would tAke offense to asserting that a $250 iron man is reasonable but a 300 diecast one is rape. This hobby is ever so much more expensive, but I think there are several factors in that and our expectations for excellence are a big part of that.

As for weight and posing, you mentioned what I meant. Some metal in the feet and choice spots of that body give stability that all plastic toys don't and often can't achieve. The rest of weight is just an immaterial feeling some of us get, that something high quality and expensive shouldn't also feel light and often brittle. But that's just a preference thing.

Monday is going to be a boring day sitting on the computer waiting

I was supposed to move house but decided to put it off on Tuesday just to be able to try grab one of these :impatient:

Re: Hot Toys MMS Iron Man Mark XXI-MIDAS

This diecast discussion started as a "Diecast is crap because it's made poorly and wears prematurely". Then "diecast is overpriced". Then "Justify buying it". First, it's not crap and it does not wear prematurely. IF, it's made and finished properly. It's attractive and durable. And yes, diecast is typically more expensive than a similar item made of plastic. Nothing new there. As far as needing to justify preferring and spending more on a diecast figure. Personal preference, to each his own. It's your money, spend it on what makes you happy. I would personally have much more of a problem spending $600.00 on a Midas than extra for a nice diecast figure. Having figures like Iron Man, Robocop, and Ed-209 in diecast makes perfect sense to me. But if HT blows it and does a crappy job with them, I'll be done with any more HT diecast. I won't bad mouth diecast, just HT's attempt at it. As far as HT's creeping list prices on their figures. I agree. But like with all things, it's about supply and demand, and what the market will bear. Most people will complain. Some will actually stop buying, many won't. Will it be enough to effect HT? We'll see.

Plastic > Die Cast.

Personal preference only. As for the die cast collections themselves, you may have to place them on wood shelves over glass if the weight of their quantity increases. The other plus side, if a burglar breaks into your home, you could probably use them as a weapon! :lol

Re: Hot Toys MMS Iron Man Mark XXI-MIDAS

What time do items *usually* go up for sale? I know it can literally be at anytime but those of you been doing this for a long time is there a pattern at all? A rough idea??
