Anyway Asta I agree Sideshow has made some great stuff over the years and my collection would feel very incomplete without them. Alot of their older stuff can even be updated to good effect. For example the Endor troopers Wor Gar brought up recently can be pretty decent if given a body swap and sculpt update. I used DID sculpts and bodies to improve a couple of mine. I really wish Sideshow did Hoth rebels too:(

I changed the bodies and sculpts on my Commandos too.Tjey were among the first few Sideshow figures I bought, back when they were ?20-?25 each on eBay. It's taken all these years to finally get an Endor Luke to go with them... who only cost around ten times more than they did!

I kept most of my original Sideshows, but sold Leia, Jedi Luke and the Stormtrooper when HT made them obsolete.

Still really fond of Boushh, Bib, Lando and all the Jabba's palace creatures. I kept original Jabba too - he was a ?40 eBay bargain at the time. The new one cost 17 times as much albeit with his throne, which I knew was a ridiculous amount. But I had to have him.

Original smaller Jabba will one day have young Han Solo for company.

I also bought Maul 2.0 when HT released their version. I even ordered the HT, but my interest was already waning having got the Sideshow, so I cancelled him. Even so, the SS is out of place because I really have no love for the PT. Hence I'm looking forward to creaky legs Maul from Solo since that's getting into the classic era (almost the Brian Daley era).

Indeed one of my favorite things in the collection is the 2.0 Jabba's Palace setup with the variety of figures you mentioned. The only non Sideshow figures in my whole setup are parts of a Luke mashup and the HT ROTJ Boba Fett. Badly need Slave Leia, or Huttslayer in Disney speak;)

Just the detail work alone on the SS is better. Which is unusual because HT is known for their attention to detail.

The SS bandoliers and the weathering -- usually horrible in SS cases -- is really well done. The clean leather on the HT Jawa is what bothers me as much as the red eyes.

Yeah it looks very much like pleather, not leather.

The blogger photos aren't usually the pinnacle of futzing but the robes look fine in most shots. The hood also doesn't have that annoying seam.

It'd be nice to compare side by side but I no longer have the SS to do that. Might be better TBH especially if they're ultimately on par, superior in a couple ways yet inferior in others.

Yeah it's a real bummer they did that seam. I guess it's somewhat hidden being on the very top but you really have ask why you'd put it right at the front of the figure. But then HT Palps has a major sleeve seam where there shouldn't be one.:dunno

Strange that only that one video has emerged. I definitely want to see more reviews before I cancel my preorder. I really wanted a gonk but not a $300 gonk and crummy Jawa. This may be the worst hot toys Star Wars in both appearance and actual value.

Yeah I was just thinking - has anyone else in HK bought this?

Paging skiff lando, wor gar on line 3.

I have a feeling if HT makes an OT Lando there's going to be some demand for it parted to replace that cartoony no-helmet SSC Lando skiff head.

Hot Toys MMS Jawas & Power droid

Definitely does look better in this. I just find it very weird that the bandoliers, that are clearly better on the SSC versions, aren?t mentioned once in this review. Not once! For such a simple figure!? Weird.
And I prefer the color of the SSC versions as well, but prefer the HT hood.
That said I might just end up getting this anyways... I just find it against my nature to not buy a HT ANH alien figure... feels like a crime. ...but so is the price, and yes the bases on this.

Not sure yet if I'll keep or cancel after watching the review. I think this should be viewed as more a prop style Jawa that nails the actual color and texture of the robes but not necessarily how they always looked on screen.

There are a few positives...

- The HT body appears a big improvement
- No unsightly seam down the middle of the hood
- Gonk articulation appears to be quite good
- The robe texture and weathering looks good
- This Jawa looks like it will easily stand on it's own

But then there is the bad(and absolutely awful)

- The price is awful
- Sideshow bandoliers are far far superior
- those bases are beyond awful and inexcusable
- The Gonk appears to be hollow and cheap
- The eyes apparently barely light up
- If the eyes did light up the color might be wrong?
- Why so few hands? Doesn't come with much

I'm back to my original assessment from the first video I saw -- all posed up and futzed, I think this will look good on the shelf. But as we all agree, the price is just goofy.

The Sideshow Jawas in that video were badly futzed, but even so the HT did look good.

The base toppers would've been a good idea if they'd made them from sturdy plastic, as they create a better environment than placing a rock over the edge of a smooth black base.

The robe has more of that 'desert rags' vibe whereas the SSC robes look soft and fluffy. Personally, I don't use stands and with very rare exceptions, I think all of Hot Toys' diorama bases suck anyway. These are cheap and cheeky on Hot Toys' part, but for me they follow a trend of poor work anyway.

This seems more and more like an experiment from Hot Toys: How big of a margin we can push onto customers from a single unit. I can't imagine it took that much to develop and make these, yet, the price is super high. Yes, I expected the GONK to be hollow and light (saves shipping cost) but this is a much cheesier one than the two they showed before. They can't even bother giving the stand a name plate. Clam shell decor...

It's really too bad, I don't think we will get the other Jawa with this kind of negative feedback, which is deserved.

Very true, and unfortunately it could even prevent them from considering other characters as well. And it's NOT because there is lack of interest, but because folks do not want to pay way too much for subpar craftsmanship!

His comparison with the SSC Jawa... the worst futzed Jawa I have ever seen :slap

So true... the hood was even bound on the front [emoji51] ...wonder if it was on purpose to make the SSC look subpar- which he in that case didn?t succeed with.

Yes exactly. I would have bought another Jawa no question if the price was not so outrageous. If it had been 2xJawas and the Gonk (which I'm sure they could have done for that price) I would have got it as well. A Gonk is literally cents worth of material, some for tool, paint is very easy and nothing special. Same goes for the Jawa robes tbh.

Yeah, gotta keep those new orders coming into Toys Wonderland.

A case where Sideshow blew HT away overall.....Like Darth Maul.....
