He also forgot to mention that the skull piece on the scabbard had no teeth, but he didn't have to because it was in the photos-photos to which they should have had access anyway. It's generally more accurate than MMS48, but Hot Toys doesn't give a **** about being making this guy as movie accurate as they can; it's a Predator, not an Iron Man armor.

I'll defend HT in that there is almost infinitely more reference for IM than the Elder -- and, given the low quality of most of the available Elder reference, I can see why they gave him the skin tone they did. Most of us accepted it as spot-on since the clearest images from SWS happen to be tinted as P. pointed out. Then again, perhaps it's the other way around and the more yellowed photos are the accurate ones. In the shot I posted with the mask, the woman's coat is completely white. So maybe that's the more accurate color to go by. Regardless, it's an easy mistake to make since there seems to be a discrepancy about whether it's a mistake at all.

As for the other accessories, I can't say much. It doesn't look like HT nor NECA will ever obsess like we can. Best they can do is get better with each release and this figure certainly has the original beat. I'm liking the most recent shots a lot. We'll have to see him in-hand of course, but at the moment it could be worse. He certainly evokes the spirit of the character for me, which is something HT hasn't really done with any of their Predator figures.

i thought about it, too. but that's why i posted this:

somebody's white hat is not red/yellow tinted, while the whole photo is. i guess different materials react differently. again, Greyback/Borg comparison is enough for me to say that the first one is not yellow.

so no references available? let's check other painters:

wtf???

what i can say is that i watched V-Raptor turning his HT Elder into movie Greyback with accessories, and i was like in a world of envy. now i don't have to be, as they will give me almost everything he did - some things worse, some even better, and some - like ponytail and human army dogtags attached to pirate beads on his neck - i'll add myself :)
waiting for not-yellow AVP creatures and then for not-yellow Greyback i found out that i don't like yellow bodies :lol might be collateral effect caused by earlier orange HT human bodies )))

To be fair, NECA did end up making their Elder literally gray. Almost silvery. Not the pale, off-white/bone color it actually is. Then there was the "1/4" version which was nearly gunmetal in shade. :lol
My biggest gripe at this point is the armor color. I can already see customizers taking care of that issue with ease, but as a box-fresh collector myself, I'll have to stick with the standard paint. Thankfully the body color is just light enough to make the armor seem darker.

yes of course, but the main point is that toy-making world knows that Greyback was grey for a long time already. it's not XX century when all we had were VHS records.

same here. i repainted previous version and loved it at that time, but since then i a) began to hate painting as an enormously difficult and boring waste of time (it is surely other way round for talented painters) and b) learned a lot more about quality of painting to be never happy with my attempts again. i didn't even give my P1 (merged from P1 and "classic") that green tint i originally did on first P1.

thanks for the photos. It looks to me that his head is to long(especially compared to the proto pics) and his legs are to short.

Legs look short, maybe it was a pic looking at a downward angle? The flash also effects the overall color, it's just a bad pic. All the others pics seem to be good.

I think Elder may be one of the last general Predator releases we see for a while, maybe until the new film comes out when Pred fever hits again. I think this will be a case of Hot Toys getting this guy out the way asap so they can concentrate on bigger lines.

Yeah...not feeling this anymore.

Think I'm done with 1/6 Hot Toys preds. They're insanely detailed but for some reason they just don't impress me anymore.

Still interested in the 1/4 predators though. If they sculpt and paint them right and develop better, sturdier bases for them...I can see that being a line I really get into.

I'm still stoked. Looks miles better than the old one and we haven't even gotten closer, better-lit pics. Plus all the little beads and details will certainly impress in-hand. Just need this guy and Chopper and I'm good with 1/6 Predators. Starting to doubt I'll spring for a Wolf.

1/4, however... that's a different story. P1 and Dutch are absolute musts and I might actually go for a Wolf that big.

Why do I get the feeling they're showing that original revised proto in Hong Kong and a (not as good looking) production figure is San Diego?

Sadly I don't see Dutch or P1 happening anytime soon. I think we can count the next year off anyway, it will take them that long to fully reveal specs for everything we've seen at SDCC.

Elder for me will be my last Predator. I don’t think I need more than two. I sold my Berserker and Tracker. In the end I shall have Scar displayed masked and Elder unmasked with all his tribal detail and glory! These two should be enough to represent “Predator” in my display cases leaving room for BD Robocop, Ripley and Batman Returns baby!!!! OOOooooooYeah!!!

damn those mandibles look crap, they never do the mandibles very well. They are always uneven and the tusks don't match up well.

That's because the mandibles move independently of eachother. Each one can be doing something different or twitching out more than the others.
