Re: Where are Hot Toys Luke and Leia?

Sir... I do believe you are very wrong about the Sith character(Kylo Ren). He will not be forgotten anytime soon, he will be remembered for what he does in the film ;)
As for The new BB-8 droid, it is a genius design and works very well for the part they have him playing.
I know the new villain will have his fans, sure - & power to them.

BB-8? Yeah, it's a great little droid design - both practically, & as a character unto itself, but yeah - not going to be much more than that.

BB-8 looks like a cruel Jawa party joke - tear off an R2 unit's head and attach it to a ball.

Well, smoker's cough is taken, so we're covered there. Fairground spinning-saber X6 effect is also a no-go. So I think we're in okay shape so far.

I'm also very thankful they didn't name him Darth Tirrorist or something.

Well if the rumours are true, he is a pretty interesting character, rather than a traditional SW "bad guy".

I kinda hate to say this in some ways, but the truth is the truth I guess. These powerhouse 'franchises' (hate to use that word too) have a shelf life. Of course, Hollywood is mainly a recycling company now, & so 'retro chic' has enjoyed the front seat for quite some time as a result - which is cool, but yeah. Star Wars is really those original three films, that's it. The rest is a mixture of mostly useless excess, followed by life support.

A lot of people have forgotten what SW is really about. It's not what a lot would assume. Thankfully, the real history, the heady days of real blockbuster / cultural phenomena mania have become a globally recognized institution & won't be forgotten. My personal view, is that EpVII will be a shot in the arm for a lot of us because of the connection to the old films, & then the series will just end up blending into the existing ocean of homogenized, reworked, convoluted & forgettable periphery that post OT SW has become. :huh

The good thing, is that because there is SO MUCH CONTENT now, you can be a fan of whatever you like. The further down the rabbit hole they go though, the less it resonates & loses the essence of what it was in the first place. That said, you could say that about any franchise really in relative terms.

Yup. I concur. I love that it's all happening and super excited about it on a certain level, just not that level. I could never have expectations again for SW as I did before TPM came out. That seemed like a dream come true, this seems $ based. Which is fine, I love all Star Wars pretty much, I have no problem keeping the OT precious while even enjoying the prequels. It's all entertainment at the end of the day, it's just what pieces of it you decide to cherish.

Yeah, have to give BB-8 credit for being a practical design. I remember there were people here convinced it was CGI, even after it was revealed to be a physical 'bot.

Hey, Jack! Any info on ESB HT figure releases you can spill? ;)
I still think the shot in the first trailer of BB8 is CG. :lol

Not buying it. He can operate amazingly well in real life for sure, but that was too perfect, too fast, too controlled.
That's one great thing so far with TFA, the CG looks great. That little hand that gave Leia the sabre in the last teaser didn't even look CG.

I just hope he will not be remembered for slaughtering all of the OT cast in the first half hour of the film.

I thought so too and felt it was pretty stupid. But now since they proved it can work in real life... :dunno

A lot of people have forgotten what SW is really about. It's not what a lot would assume.

People forget that there are only three Star Wars movies.

Okay, five. But it's a bit of a stretch to include The Battle for Endor and Caravan of Courage. :lol

As a veteran of 1998, I'm more of a "guilty until proven innocent" kind of guy. :lol

Star Wars derived its power from the long shadow of World War 2, the "I'm not my father" generational shift (sins of the previous 100 years) that began in the 60's, the 1970's feeling that space was a literal new frontier and the 60's attempt to reinvent spirituality into something more self-centered/serving than Christianity.

The new movie - apparently a universe weary of senseless war - is post 9/11 and I guess that's an appropriate update of "where we are," but dystopic is not exactly new on the movie screen these days. And "Rogue One" certainly looks like it will be going down that road too.

Darker and bleaker, which to me sort of runs counter to what made Star Wars appealing back then - a black/white counterpoint to the murky darkness of Vietnam. Star Wars probably can ever ascend to the cultural relevancy it once had, but I guess a fun dose of nostalgia is what's on the menu, with a $1.5 billion worldwide gross to prove its commercial relevancy, so I guess just enjoy the ride.

Good post (considering). :lol

Please can we keep any talk of SFA out of these threads. Or at least in spoiler tags.

Some of us are not watching any trailers for it.

Does content seen in a trailer with 50,000,000 views qualify for spoiler tags? A serious question, not sarcasm. I thought it was just for rumor site revelations and leaked story/design details.

I don't think trailers count. And you might as well get off the net to be truly spoiler free. (or at least out of this section entirely.):peace

I would have presumed it did? It certainly applies in the Marvel section re AOU so see no reason why it shouldn't here also.

There are numerous threads (both figures and film specific) that TFA can be discussed. It was merely a polite request as I would like to see these OT figures without having my SFA enjoyment spoilt.

Pretty sure it's been confirmed to be a practical body with a digital head in that trailer shot.
Orbotix (makers of Sphero) will be selling a working BB-8 toy, scale unknown at this point.

I just read back over the last page or two, don't think anyone said anything remotely spoilerish? You having a bad day? :lol

And are you seriously not watching any trailers for it? By november you won't be able to walk down the street. Buses will be plastered in artwork depicting key battles, McDonalds cups will be strewn around the road. What will you do if the trailer comes on before Jurassic World or ahem.. Terminator Genysis?

:lol

Re: Hot Toys - MMS293-294? - Star Wars Episode IV - 1/6th Luke Skywalker & Leia Organ

I haven't actually read the last pages but scanned it and saw a lot of chatter on it by noting character names. So was just a polite request in case there was anything particularly spoilerish there.

No I'm trying to avoid as much as I can. Yes it's going to be very difficult. I'm seeing the secret cinema performance of ESB in August and am worried there may be something there! I won't be watching JW or TG anyway as have zero interest in both.

Luckily I live on a small island so won't have to put up with billboard or bus posters. We don't have those. :lol

I just thought Leia having the half-Wookie Jedi son was pretty widely known by now.:dunno
