This may sound weird, but Kingsley Mandarin is a must have for me, while I have zero interest in Killian. Kingsley is visually interesting and the twist is the best part of the movie. Fire-breathing Killian was just the movie going full-retard.

Yep. I went with 3 others, without comic book knowledge, and they love it more than I, initially. When I explained the "comic book" reality, they could've cared less.

Which is a double edged sword. It's perfect for Marvel Studios who needs to attract all viewers not just comic book fans because realistically comic book fans will go anyway even if it is just to ***** about it. Comic book fans' cash is a done deal in the theaters. The problem is it is horrible for merchandising because it's not the casual fan who is going to buy a ton of stuff let alone a $200 action figure.

Are we talking about spoilers in here? I won't say anything just I'm case other than due to the way the film turned out the above poster is right, what a complete joke to offer this as a figure, as much as I enjoyed him in the movie.

I agree. But for the most part, I know all super hero movies are going to be made based on someone's interpretation. I may not love everything, or agree with everything, but I am still thrilled they are being made. Thats also why I don't mind if a HT release has been in a movie for 90 minutes or 90 seconds or not at all. They are cool as their own entity. But thats the way I feel.

If you are getting this figure, what's the reason? Just curious.

1. It's visually interesting.
2. Kingsley was genuinely scary in the first half, leading me to want a whole movie about that character.
3. The twist was hilarious, completely left-field and IMO, the best part about the movie.
4. It's still a striking representation of Iron Man's arch-enemy from the comics (just not Chinese.)
5. Ben ****ing Kingsley

That good enough? I'm not even an IM completist and could give a **** about any of the armors from the film. Just want a Mandarin.

Interesting. I bet that's typical of audiences.

For the same reason I would buy any figure: I like the character. And, in this case I personally really liked the twist and will get this figure no questions asked. If they end up making a Killian then I will probably get him as well. Though I do agree with the other posters that are saying Killian WAS the Mandarin, I feel like I would need both figures as both characters represented the overall package that was the MCU's Mandarin to me.

I know there are a lot of comic readers in this forum, but they are quite in the minority in the general population. They make movies for one reason - to make money. If the GP really likes a movie, it'll make more money. The GP loves what they did, while some comic readers don't.

That said, if they went with The Mandarin actually being a badass villain, and did it well, then both comic readers AND the GP would be happy.

I probably will for the following.

1. As a stand alone figure / collectible, I tthink it'll look great. Just like every other HT I own. So I don't care what his role was in the film.

2. Even though he wasn't the comic version of the Mandarin in the movie, he does resemble him.

I think so too. I personally didn't love that the Mandarin was used as the twist. And like most others, I would've preferred more armor time from Tont and the drones. But I thought the story line and action was great. But those that came with me, didn't know the history of the Mandarin. So they thought the twist was aces. And they weren't expecting to see 42 or 35 new armors. So all the additional armors they saw, were neat to them. Basically, OUR expectations are what probably left us a bit disappointed.

Mandarin Shmandarin, I wanna see the Kingsley sculpt (sculpts?) soon!

:goodpost:

I agree with you, if they had gone with The Mandarin they presented in the trailers, I think they might of had something on par with Ledger's Joker... but they didn't. They went for the twist and ended up doing something a little different (Batman Begins not withstanding) I knew the spoiler going in and I think it helped make the film for me. I already had my freak out and my dissapointment so I could watch the film and just enjoy it. Because of this, I actually could get behind the Mandarin not being the Mandarin. Still want this figure and he better come with the chair too.

If you are getting this figure, what's the reason? Just curious.

1. Visual interest
2. Fan of Iron Man comics
3. Enough imagination to enjoy the character even if he didn't turn out the way we thought and still pretend he's the Mandarin
4. ****s and giggles BECAUSE of the twist

I'm really liking the idea of a Mandarin two-pack. Not only does it wholly represent the idea of the character, it practically acts as a showcase of his evolution in the comics as well. People have gotten so used to the idea that the Mandarin in the comics still looks the same as he did in his classic appearances (like Trevor's Mandarin), whereas recent stories have actually depicted him as being much more subtle and scientific in his approach (even wearing a business suit like Killian himself), until he's finally drawn into the battle (in which yes, just like Killian, he actually fought shirtless).

In this case, Trevor's Mandarin is actually still relevant. The director describes Trevor's Mandarin as a proxy, not a decoy, not a random creation, but essentially a "mouthpiece" acting on Killian's behalf: a "mask" that allows him to manipulate the media. In that regard, "The Mandarin" plot would've essentially allowed Killian to control two sides of this whole thing: the classic image of the Mandarin strikes terror in people's hearts and holds the general public in his grip (his very own words, written and created by Killian himself), while the modern depiction of the Mandarin monopolizes on the development of scientific weaponry and human enhancement while receiving support and cover from the government.

In that regard, I actually welcome HT to make both Trevor's Mandarin and Killian as THE Mandarin, as I find that such an idea represents the character in the MCU really well as one whole collective.

To quote my own post:
Thinking about it, given that Trevor's Mandarin is meant to serve as Killian's proxy, it'd be cool to have this figure and a figure of Killian standing at the back with the dragon tattoos visible, displayed together and labelled collectively as "The Mandarin".

Keeping in mind the stuff that I just said, now I'm even more keen if HT decides to make both of them.

A Trevor/Killian "Mandarin" boxed 2 for 1 set, at a discount price (like somewhere under $300), otherwise, I don't think there would be much point. Without a price discount, might as well release them separately, & let collectors choose if they want both, one, or none.

That is, if Killian get's made at all.
