This Predator was on vacation not hunting Humans but small creatures. Never did he enter the camp of the main characters and start killing them off. It was that girl that imposed herself on it because she wanted it for her "katimia". She drew it to the French. It's the reason his weapons were low key. If a soldier in the US army wanted a little R&R they don't take their US issued gear with them. They pack lightly. I don't buy the BS because this movie takes place back then that's the reason his weapons are more "primitive". The guys still was dropped off in a ship with cloaking

I hate being the guy who keeps bitching about a figure, but seriously, how is this really better than a NECA figure?
Other than the larger scale that allows for better paint apps and more detail, it's just a bunch of plastic. Absolutely nothing about this screams "high end". NECA's even got better articulation. I swear the old AvP preds were better made than this; those had some cloth items, loads of accessories, brilliant articulation... this thing is so half-assed it's not even funny.

I realize this is probably just a prototype, but I doubt HT will make any changes.

And that's probably all I'll say about this figure.
But I will keep an eye on it, see if there are improvements/changes.

The design is definitely holding it back. The crummy dreads, the lack of armor to hide the joints, the lack of netting. The only difference between this figure and the last Hot Toys Predators that isn't due to the design of the character is the diaphragm joint (something the AVP 1.0 Predators had).

My wallet is quite stressed. I'll have to settle for the NECA version which looks pretty good and is probably 1/7th the price of the Hot Toys, even if it is only 7 inches.

I'd already decided I didn't want the Hot Toys version - but now I'm thinking of cancelling my NECA order with BBTS - just not sure I want a reminder of the movie sitting in my collection :dunno

Don't get me wrong - I enjoyed the film it at the time, and it certainly served its purpose, but (for me) it's just not as enjoyable in repeat viewings as most of the other Pred movies . . . I'm basically done with it after 4 viewings - REALLY unusual for me. It also doesn't help that although the design fitted the movie well, I'm not that enthused about getting a sculpted figure.

It's a shame NECA will never adapt any of Narin's designs - he's spoiled everything else for me :lol

That hair looks so... fake. Same in the film, the strands just look like power cords or rubber strips bought from a hardware store with absolutely nothing done to make them look more organic.

Social media was full of people praising the practical suit, but I wonder if they know how good these things looked in the '80s and '90s.
The practical suit was just a Halloween costume with a decent budget.

Bland rubber dreads, sausage fingers...

The fact that they had to CGI over the face and hands in some scenes tells you all you need to know.

Feel like I am in the minority but I actually really like the practical suit in the behind the scenes and feel like it was ruined by adding CGI in the movie.

Studio ADI gets a lot of crap for their work on Alien Resurrection (brown fleshy aliens and Newborn) and AvP (body builder Preds and Scars ridiculous face) but with the exception of their dreadful attempts at Predator faces (those guys can not get Predator mandibles right) I've always liked their work, however....
Their work on Prey is the weakest, crappiest work they've ever done.
A lot of the blame for hideous Pred design is on the decisions from the director, but the poor execution, the sausage hands, the dreads etc that's all on ADI.

I can't look past the hands (sorry)...

Feral obviously has inflammation of the hands. 300 years ago they didn't have the anti-inflammatories we have today. And even if they did, it would have been hard to get them in the woods of the Great Plains. I have no problem with the sausage hands if a plausible explanation for them can be posited.

Say it ain't so abake! :monkey2

I can see where everybody's thoughts and critiques stem from, as we all have our preferences, likes and dislikes :duff Speaking for myself I'm excited for this one since it's potentially going to be my first HT Predator figure ever, and from one of my favorite recent films.

I'm buying the NECA out of a sense of completism with them but personally I don't think Prey is worth bigger money. And certainly, having previously sold off all my Hot Toys Predators, I'm hardly going to pick this as my re-entry point.

It would have to be a good P1 Jungle Hunter and Dutch.

Yes! I fathom a great deal of collectors are clamoring for those with Ht's updated/improved techniques. I can just imagine a new JHP with loads of accessories!

I do agree this Pred deviates from the more traditional design(s), and while I'm not a diehard Predator fan, I don't mind Feral Pred's appearance. Though his practical prop head does look like a roasted chicken (I remember you called it Predachicken) :lol
