It doesn't help that the majority of the HT line to date has been pretty underwhelming to begin with.

In spite of idealized likeness, I still think DX07 is one of the best they've ever produced. You can see the love in that set. Not that there haven't been some great releases since, but they're not consistent.

That shiny dome is nice...but I just don't think I can justify spending almost $100 more on this compared to the Sideshow version.

It's not really just a shiny dome, it's metal, it's very well detailed on weathering and it truly looks like a 1:1 scale R2 shrunk down to 1:6. I never purchased the SS R2 because to me it always looked like a toy, not necessarily a high grade collectible. IMHO.

When I started collecting HT, there was the regular MMS line and the DX. The DX line was “the Big Show” main event. Where HT put everything into the box and presented it to you with foam packaging. It was an experience!! I had imagined that HT would continue this experience with other SW offerings. Todays “regular” releases experience are boring.

For me, I can agree that some of these figures are more going through the motions than others. But beyond the question of likeness and some other, lesser quibbles, I think HT has done a really good job with this line personally. Sure, Leia's dress could be better, as could Chewy's hair color, etc. But this stuff is still really nice, high end work by and large. I think it's natural to get a bit accustomed to what they are doing as conventional, but compare it to Sideshow, or ThreeZero, or really most others out there today, and HT is still the high water mark. to the extent that you can usually turn a really nice figure into an amazing one with a few minor tweaks.

damn he does look a bit yellow but too white and it looks more toy like than it is.

:lol

Clearly the differences are monumental. One has only to look at the droids side by side. My god man, do you think Vader looks the same in his movies, or Fett... or worse of all 3PO...?

Hopefully this will be the only R2 I need.. But watch them release a proper ANH and/or ESB version that is better somehow. Know this game far too well..

Most white painted stuff does turn yellow over time. Go find a 90s white car. It's obvious that it was painted that way on purpose for some realism.

Anyone get the Sphero R2 yet? I'm hoping it's the same scale as the clock.
