I have planned for and need an emperor for my display, it's almost like yeah it's ok just give it to me. Which sucks really. Especially considering the exceptional head sculpts they have been doing lately. Starlord, Yondu, Tarkin, etc

Yep it is prince Philip! Really does not look like the emperor at all despite trying to trick my brain, cant get myself hyped for this sculpt.

Here's a couple of pictures that I took at Tokyo Comic Con.

Nose seems to be a key area throwing this off.

I think it just may need some futzing..
Heres to hoping this version includes pants.

Having paused to take a second look, it's not just the sculpt. The robes hood material needs to drape better than whats shown here. The hoods the wrong shape!

I also think part of what may be aiding in making the sculpt look wider, is the fact that the figure has been displayed with the hood flared out in a triangular shape, while in the film (as shown in the image you posted), his hood almost drapes perpendicular to his head with miminal flaring out.

Sculpt could still use some major tweaking, but I do think the hood may potentially be playing a part in making his face look wide. Some futzing with the hood and snipping of potential threads (similar to the hood of TFA Kylo Ren figure) to make it drape around his head more the way it does in the film, could possibly remedy that.

Everyone's right on with the criticisms of the sculpt. It's a solid effort but even with the new lighting and better hood futz (which really improves it) it still doesn't reach the heights that a Hot Toys Emperor should be at.

But who would have thought the Emperor would be so hard to nail? I would have assumed it would be an easy one to get looking close to right, but clearly not. The onscreen expression is often very theatrical, so is tough to make not cartoony and unrealistic.

A facial expression like this is all they needed to do. I don't get it. They normally do deadpan expressions all the time. But they decide on a goofy smile for the emperor, the most evil of the evil ???

Well he does smile and laugh in the film. [emoji23]

Yeah I get it, they're going for the scene with him seated and Vader and Luke crossing blades in front of him while he laughs.

But for any other display I think they should have picked a more generic evil sculpt. But who am I.

Perhaps I'm in the minority ? What do others think ?

I’m liking the sculpt better now, but it’s still not the awesome sculpt that I had in mind when Howard first released that grainy pic.

I don’t mind the grin. [emoji51]

That being said.. if this was 1/4 scale.. how much of that grin would I still not mind ?? [emoji23][emoji23]

Even though I generally welcome expressions other than the same, stoic expression that HT seems to give most of their figures, I do agree with others that this expression for this figure would have sufficed as well.
