The thing is we can compare the scaled figures/statues/mini-busts with 1:1 helmets cast from screen used ones, not just photos. Talking about Stormtroopers the sharpness of HT beats Marmit, HT is also made of ABS so that is another plus. The clear white SSC lid is behind Marmit, HT, GG minibust and even Medi. The biggest issue with the HT helmet compared to Marmit is the front tubes area, from the frown (mouth as some call it) to the mic tip area: that apart is a bit too fat and big.

SSC with both their 1/4 PF and 1/6 figure had an even bigger problem there (the jaw was humongous), and for example Kotobukiya Sandies have a way too rounded and tight area there. The best scaled TK lids remain GG minibust (with its own a tad too small helmet and mic tips too pronounced issues) and Judge Dredd's 1/3 custom Stormie statue - both GG and JD use a cast of a screen used lid. Marmit and HT come close, and SSC is farther away. Sandtrooper helmet will have the small advantage of the Stunt helmets which will cover some of the imperfections

Can't wait for this guy. Wish there were more pics floating around.
With you there ! Nothing at NYCC. The hype machine for TFAwakens had started now. Can't see this guy getting too much screen time until that's been released and all the older fans like me are feeling nostalgic. Then bam they release some more original trilogy stuff.

That said TFAwakens does look awesome, I'm already feeling nostalgic. So they've got me hook line & sinker !

Yes. The first time I saw a GG bucket I knew it was a screen accurate bucket. I can't remember who had one removed from it's bust, it might have been you. But that was my inspiration for getting a replica and scanning it to 1/6th scale. The guy I was working with just didn't have the patience to work through it...and for the money he was spending too much time.

I agree with all that was said. The SSC buckets seem to have been a scan of the FX stormtrooper helmets. Looks just like them.

I still lean towards the HT stormy over Marmit, just because I think with the right poses you can get a very realistic looking stormtrooper. I also love the stunt helmet look much better than the hero. It's too bad HT didn't nail it on the TK bucket. I think they did it on purpose to keep us on the constant search.

Who knows, maybe HT will release a set of Stunt Stormtroopers some day. Because we know HT will not let die their TK line, we'll get Stormies in Rogue One so HT will most likely make them too.

....and we can always use a sandtrooper bucket on a stormyrooper body, provided they do get the sandtrooper helmet right.

With some changes regarding the tear drops and trapezoids and maybe a needed repaint and so on.

SANDTROOPER / STORMTROOPER COMPARISON

Sandtrooper - Stormtrooper differences.jpg

The sandtroopers all had their decal areas painted on so each was different. The regular troops all had decals so they were a bit more uniform.

Of course, but even with some new paint and some weather removal it would look amazing. Also the black rubber guard strip is too high, but people do it with Marmits.

Anyone know of a promo code? I'm ordering another today.

I think he was referring to the regular troopers all using stickers vs. paint.

I ordered my second. So one is on flex, the other is not. Can't wait to see this figure. I have stand by bodies in case it needs to be futzed. Seems to me there is an issue putting the legs too close together...and they always present him with his shoulders way back as if they are trying to extend the abdomen or prevent the shoulders from looking too squashed.

I switched HT stormtrooper bodies to Soldier Story S2.5's to get a more natural posture and OT look; but did graft the HT arms on to the S2.5.

The HT bodies are too muscular and the limbs don't hang as naturally as they should. I've also had success grinding the torso flatter in the lat area to get rid of the HT body's V shape, allowing the arms to hang naturally.

There are pictures way back in the HT stormtrooper thread, somewhere of my various experiments.

OOOOHHHH, would love to see the results of your work, ZE_501. Can you help re-direct? This is exactly what's needed on the HT troopers. They are too bulky.

Exactly the opposite: no decals were used in ANH for Stormtrooper helmets, everything was hand painted. Decals started in ESB, where they added them even on top of hand painted details from the old ANH lids.

Yes, I was saying when you said "not" in ANH you were responding to the comment that the regular stormtroopers all used stickers. Looks funny but that's what I said too. :)
