As I wait for my case to move through the SSF Supreme Court, thought I'd begin posting again.:horror

I got the scrumdiliumptious HT Snowie :yess: the other day and thought I'd do a review.

For those interested in fixing the SSC Snowie, I did pull a quickie cast of the helmet for an ATST driver so thought I'd also upgrade my Sideshow Snowie - I cast the HT gauntlet too to replace the foot-diameter SSC PVC plumbing pipe gauntlets. My iPhone needs the camera app reinstalled, so I took the pic with my old camera - appropriately, my modded Sideshow figure is a bit soft, overexposed and detail-less in the pic while the HT is perfectly exposed and sharp. :lol

First, the good:

I LOVE the HT helmet - it's such a bullseye it's almost too good to be true, especially after having to tolerate that Sideshow helmet abomination for so many years. The fabric/plastic cowl poses pretty well too.

I like how HT went with the "tan look" for the outfit - for years, companies have fallen into the white or tan camps with snowies, and it was nice to see HT going a little more tan - it contrasts the white armor well. Hasbro has done both in 4" and displayed mixed it really captures the way they looked onscreen (some Snowies were noticeably more tan/weathered, while other were more straight white.) The fabric is great and poses well.

The sculpt detail on stuff like the gauntlets is amazingly accurate, and even the Snowie-style blaster is spot-on. The glove hands have a level of detail that they really didn't need to do (perhaps a little overdone,) but did anyway - it's little things like that that make HT the best. The way the backpack attaches is great too - I had no trouble clipping it on, and the magnet works great to take the weight off the tiny clips. HT has such a great understanding of 1/6. The paint/finish/weathering is subtle and gorgeous - no surprise there.

The body poses beautifully and was apparently engineered by Mercedes - how HT delivers such consistently high quality bodies is a mystery Sideshow will never solve.

The price is also worth mentioning - with a standard SSC coupon, I only paid $175 for this, which is a stellar deal for such a high quality figure. Other than the ATAT driver, I have been quite disappointed with SSC's troopers in the past couple of years, which are in the same price range.

The not-as-good:

Overall, the snowie came out a little small/short for some reason. Next to the HT stormie, he's a bit on the short side - somewhere around 1/4" or so under 12". Also, the figure/body is also somewhat oddly proportioned - the legs seem a little short and the arms somewhat too long (not as clear in the pic as in-hand.) Not SSC Luke Jedi "monkey arms" but it's there. The Snowie costume does tend to bunch oddly and is hard to futz, but this is beyond that.

Some, though not all, accessories also feel just a touch undersized - which is an odd counterpoint to Sideshow's Snowie where everything was a tad oversized or "fat." HT's shoulder bells, backpack, boots, knee armor - all feel just a touch too small for a full 12" figure. The SSC vs. HT backpacks makes the issue clear - though the HT is less undersized than the SSC is oversized.

The boots are one area where the sculpt fell short and are not very convincing - they look very much like sculpted plastic boots more akin to higher-end Hasbro than HT. The boots' paint apps also aren't great. To be fair, the costume boots are weird looking, but a white fabric version of HT's Luke Bespin boots might have been nice to see HT do here.

A minor issue is the decision to pad the thighs/legs - the Snowies really should have more loose-fitting fabric there, so I'll probably be removing the padding.

The rockin' stand is an issue, but is fixed fairly easily. I don't love these type of HT stands anyway (take up too much room and are too tall for my tastes,) so not a huge deal to me.

Counting buttons:

A few nitpicky details stuck out to me as a touch off. The chest armor, while better shaped than the Sideshow one (which is a bit too flattened) and pretty great overall, has some errors like the noticeably oversized red buttons and metal plate that aren't quite accurate size/sculpt-wise. Because they are one of the few splashes of bright color, it kind of jumped out at me. On the belt "buckle," the metal greeblie is a bit too big, just as Sideshow's was a bit too small. The pouches - while better than the slightly undersized SSC ones - have an incorrectly oriented flap on one side.

Overall, a superb fig though and one that can be placed in the "never be topped" column... until HT reissues their Snowie in bright white to go with their ESB Vader.:gah::lol

Nice review Tali, good to see you back!

I actually prefer the look of the SSC snowie in that pic. With the mods that you've done I think that one looks more of a "man in a suit" than the hot toys version.

totally love this figure.. so tempted to buy a 2nd, and the backpack was super easy to attach, cant see why people are having an issue with this.

Exactly! Took me literally under 30 seconds to hook those d-rings. I think it's cause ppl aren't turning the d-rings around..making it harder to clasp on the backpack perhaps.

Nice chakaman! :clap

SS made a wise decision to rerelease the E-Web with these figures coming.

Nice looking figure. Just two gripes.

One of the shoulder pads fell off as the glue wasn't that strong. Double sided tape fixed it. I couldn't hook the back pack on the hooks, but fortunately the magnet works fine as is.

Overall a decent upgrade from the SS version

Nice post and photo Talibane! I really do like this Snowtrooper too. Probably my favorite Trooper from HT so far, or at least amongst the top. Is that a modified SSC Snowtrooper on the left?

Sorry, didn't see your question. Yes, modded SSC Snowie in my pic.

Good post Talibane.

Very good read TaliBane.

Thanks guys.:hi5:

Thanks - and yeah, in-hand there is an overall vibe to the modded SSC that I do think maybe looks more "stepped off the screen" versus the HT, though a large part of that is the cast of the HT helmet, which is a bullseye.

And the HT, like so many HT figs, just feels great in-hand; a really high end product with tight joints and everything fitted just as it should be.

I'm going to post some less neutral pics of both figs and see how they compare. And like having both a white and grey armored ATAT driver, I love having a tan and a white snowie. Feel like I have the set.:lol

Nice group there! I had to pass on the Sandtrooper and Spacetrooper but they look great.

Nice group shot. I have the Sandie nearly posted the same way also without the special edition Droid

Thanks. I think these troopers are awesome.

Just need HT to release a tie pilot and scout trooper and I'll have the variations I need
