Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

Hot Toys..... no brainer. But since they dont have a licence this argument is pointless.
Hopefully Medicom's AOTC Clone and Royal Guard will completely bomb, Medicom will give up their licence and Hot Toys will take it on. Pretty long shot though.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

I don't think we can really answer this question until we have the clone-armor Obi Wan in hand, and at that point I'm not sure there's even really a choice to be made anymore. I view it as a Sideshow/Hot Toys co-production (as I do the SSC 1:6 Indy and Frodo and Sam).

True - SS's superior headsculpt with HT's superior body/armor. The best of both worlds!

I tend to agree, but the more realistic scenario is that--thanks to their alrady existing partnership-- Hot Toys will actually become more involved with the creation and production of Sideshow's 1/6 SW stuff.

?? If we were to sacrifice a 1/6th SW licensee, based on total output of desired characters and quality of execution, I really dont think Medi would be the one to drop. IMO. And not Hasbro either.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

I wouldn't mind a mixure of both, really. Have Hot Toys take on the difficult full body stuff, like droids, vehicles and inhuman aliens, while Sideshow (with the Prometheus body) continues on with the humans. Best of both worlds, IMO.

Hot Toys (easily)!

Agree. That would truly be a dream scenario.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

Can you imagine if an Endor trooper had this level of detail?

(i know they're different troopers/different gear etc. but close your eyes and imagine it.)

If you can still say that after Sideshow's stormtroopers come out, I'll eat my boot. If they look anything like Obi-wan, Medicom will have become obsolete in the world of Star Wars 1:6.

The Endor troops are already very detailed. I think there were very few people that complained about the level of detail. Many complained about the price. I can't imagine what type of complaints there would have been if they were $100 or more like the figure you show above. Really, what "detail" are the SSC Endor figures missing?

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

I dunno man if you can't see a difference i don't know what to say. One looks hasbro-ish And the other like a true 1/6 representation. (not talking about price it's moot talking about detail and quality) If you can't see it fine! Like i said different gear and ^^^^ but you get the point. It's really not even up for debate IMO, HT owns the 1/6 world.(If HT made an endor trooper it would look miles ahead of the SS ones)

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

I think HT is great at what they do, but that they dont NEED to do Star Wars. Could SS scale back the prices a bit and get into more difficult stuff, sure. But I'm fairly content with the way they are taking things at moment and besides, SS wouldn't lose out to HT. If anything it would be Medi losing out to HT as SS has domestic/European and Medi has Overseas/Asia.

"Difference" isn't the point. Yes HT has great detail. But what exactly were the Endor troopers missing? And is an improved quality on Endor Troopers something that anyone except yourself willing to pay for?

IMO the SSC Endor Troops have more detail than most of the other SW figures (such as Bespin Luke or Han) and they were priced to reflect that.

So many people complained about $70. I can't imagine anyone but yourself celebrating $140 Endor Troops.

Yes, HT could make them better. But do people want "better" (aka more expensive) Endor Freakin Troopers?

Not me, or if I did I would get only one, and that one had better be representative of the vintage figure. I'd rather be slowly priced out of completism than have it done immediately. That is what would happen with HT. And not to point fingers or anything but I find it interesting that some of those originally cheering SS getting the Star Wars line now want HT to take it over.

Detail and quality are 100% subordinate to...

(...wait for it...

...is the suspense killing you yet?

...have you guessed?)

...price. :duh

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

I am just happy we got Jabba all ready because now he would be $200 himself and the throne would be $350.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

All production qualities aside, I'd still choose Hot Toys because Sideshow makes stupid decisions with all of their properties.

STAR WARS
Look at the order of importance they're making the line with. They bounce around the saga aimlessly, so much that unless you're a drooling SW fanboy, most 1:6 collectors like myself easily loose interest in pursuing the line at all.

We're just now waiting on a New Hope Han & Luke?

No Chewie for miles?

Just now giving us a Vader teaser?

No Hoth figures, Stormtroopers, Clones, Droids, Yoda?

But we have an Asajji Ventress and Aurra Sing? (I realize the spelling is incorrect)

TERMINATOR:
Look at that Sara Conner figure again.....holy Geezus...

LOTR:

While I love me some Faramir...doesn't it seem that Gandalf should've been the next successor to Aragorn & Legolas? Keep with the Fellowship.

Lastly.....they lost the Bond license when the series is on the cusp of being better than it has been since Connery was still using "just for men".

Hot Toys excels at capitalizing on all opportunities given with a property, and then crushes all nearby competition by actually delivering the goods. Plus, when I see a Hot Toys preorder go up, it isn't very long before the figures start landing in collector's hands.

Frodo & Sam fans will obviously tell you differently about Sideshow.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

Yeah?

Well Hot Toys hasn't done ANYTHING so far from those licenses...few exceptions...

And since when did we get an Aura Sing figure?

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

While I agree with some of your points Ashton, I think a lot of it is simply subjective.

I can rattle away on how HT is wasting time with stupid AVP Predator variations when I'm waiting for Dutch, Dillon, Mac, Billy, and Blain.

I can point out how Sao Feng is a stupid POTC character when we're still missing Barbosa or a Black Pearl Kira Kneightly.

Anyway, while I agree about Vader being late, I think there have been very few SW figures that were stupid choices, character selection is just too subjective to measure as a pro or con.
