Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

HT would own, and i hope it happens someday.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

How do we know that Sideshow can't do mech stuff?

I wasn't implying they can't, just that at present, they're not doing that kind of thing, while Hot Toys has already done it successfully. If Sideshow gets into mechs, I have no problem at all with that, but for the time being at least, HT would be better prepared to do high quality SW mech figures.

Not to overrun the current discussion, but if we asked:

SSC $60-$80
vs
HT $120-$140

Who would you guys support? Personally, I prefer a less expensive line even though quality will be lower. SW is just too big a franchise to make it a line where no obscure characters are made because people won't pay $120 for Greedo.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

And I've heard of no one breaking their HT bodies, must be a rare instance.

You have now. When I opened my T-800 Exoskeleton out of the package and began to futz with it delicately, one of it's fingers immediately broke off in my hand. The figure is a masterpiece, but the handling is less to be desired.

Now I don't even breath in his direction for fear of it breaking something else.

I see your point, though I think greedo is not an obscure character, I wouldn't mind getting him if he's well done. (with alternate blaster wound shirt stain w/ blood and trick torso that can allow him to fall on the table naturally would be great.) that imperial officer SS release couple months ago is an obscure character that I wouldn't pay $60 for. :D

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

I don't own any HT items, but the stories surfacing in this thread scare me a bit. I am not at all the type of collector that wants to put an item behind glass and leave it there for eternity. I need things to be durable to some extent.

One of the main reason that I love SSC, they make "the so called" obscure characters.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

In terms of range of characters produced and price point, I will go for SS.

In terms of quality, I will go for HT.

I have close to 70 pieces of 1:6 scale figures produced by SS and HT from the different licenses and my views expressed here are a direct result of my personal experiences with the figures that I owned.

We are talking about the base HT bodies.

The Endo is not a base body, and it is known to be fragile, especially since EVERY finger joint is articulated and every piston works.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

HT stuff is more fragile because it is more detailed. It's a dual edged sword. But if you are very careful, you won't have many breakage situations.

My first HT figure was Hicks, I broke several things on him and had to glue it to fix. After that I have only had a few small incidents, but nothing as severe as he was. And each time it was my own fault. I don't mind things being fragile, as long as it serves a purpose for being so fragile. :lol

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

I think SS has done fine with the SW line. As great as HT are, I still think SS does better likenesses (even if they suffer from production). To me, the likeness is more important than the pose ability.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

I don't care how much it would be I would take HT SW figs anyday over SS ones. I still like SS SW figs, but HT would kill them.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

i like sideshow. there doing a good job with starwars. there getting better one figure at a time. were finally going to get darth vader.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

I'd go with Hot Toys.

If SSC would stop using the buck for good, make proportionate heads and make better costuming (material and accuracy), then I would stick with them.

Imagine the jedi like Anakin and Obi-Wan with a double layered tunic and a cut so you wouldn't have to tape or use rubberbands and even water to get it to look remotely like the movie.

Or a jedi robe that's made out of a much nicer material like on the PFs.

Or even a cloak the you could wrap around the front without bunching up because the pattern is wrong.

Or pockets that actually look and function like pockets.

I'm only displaying Asajj and Jabba. All the rest are in boxes because I think they look like wrecks and I wasted a lot of money that could have went toward much nicer stuff that I would actually have liked. I got too into the hype and I guess my expectations were too high, also, but nothing that couldn't be done.

I would like to see what Sideshow could do with a 120+ figure. A 'normal' figure. Like Anakin or Obi-Wan.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

Glad my tastes aren't so high as to think 99% of the SSC SW figures are "wrecks".

i guess its all relative, if there were no HT or medi, no one would complain about SS's sw line. I mean, hasbor's sw line was at one time a highly sought after "collectable" before ss jump into the ring

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

I'm quite happy with my SS 12" figures.

The quality of the sculpts as well as the costumes seem to be pretty good to my eyes.

I also accept certain limitations. at the 1/6 scale it would be more difficult to make pockets that are actually pockets, without making them look 'wrong'. As well, while accurate fabrics (The same as used on the costumes in the movies) may sound good, the fabrics would likely not hang correctly on a reduced scale figure.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

Ummmm...if they were the same price, it would depend on the figure itself...

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

Depends on too many factors. Come back and ask once we have Clone Obi in hand which would provide, I think, a fair assessment of something near HT current quality.
Why??? I say we base this off Aayla Secura.
hot toys for the quality and representation of the character. ss for the price, which is roughly half.

AMEN!!!
