Re: Do you think we will ever get Hot Toys Star Wars 1/6 figures?

I just wish Hot Toys would make the heads. Sideshow can make everything else but their heads are crap in my opinion.

Re: Do you think we will ever get Hot Toys Star Wars 1/6 figures?

the heads are hit ad miss. the Clonobi/ ep2 obi are good, Old ben is a work of art, as is gandalf. Jedi luke is a near perfect likeness, the expression just ruins it. Anh han is pretty good too.
with many of these, the only thing separating them from hot toys is the skin texture hot toys has been fond of lately.

Re: Do you think we will ever get Hot Toys Star Wars 1/6 figures?

I have recently been downsizing what I collect. I have gotten rid of all of the action figures from my collection and gone into collecting 1/6th only. (So is that upsizing?) Anyway, a friend of mine visited me a couple of days ago and asked how it was going and I showed her what I had left. Namely, my Sideshow Star Wars and Hot Toys Dark Knight figures. She looked at them a while and asked why the hell I bothered with the Sideshow stuff as they were inferior figures and cited the oversized heads on some and the bad paint on the head sculpts. I must confess that I have been getting a little let down by Sideshow of late. Some of the figures really scream out for better paint applications. Some of the sculpts are great! But when I see something like Bespin Han and Yavin Luke I cannot help feel that the license could be in better hands. I am going to see what the next few releases look like but if there are anymore bad likenesses such as Piett I may leave the line altogether.

Re: Do you think we will ever get Hot Toys Star Wars 1/6 figures?

how can we call piet a bad likeness? we don't even have production pics yet
let alone in-hand shots.

Re: Do you think we will ever get Hot Toys Star Wars 1/6 figures?

I think Sideshow is doing a great job, their sculptors are top notch. Aside from some quality controll and paint apps. issues, I think the licsence is in good hands.

Sideshow should have had the integrity to recall the Bespin Luke figure. Talk about a fan favourite ruined by a bad manufacturing process on the head. There is no reason that figure should still be readily available on the primary market if they had executed it properly.

Re: Do you think we will ever get Hot Toys Star Wars 1/6 figures?

I bet most people hyping a supposed HT SW line probably have no interest in buying more than 4 figures a year and will stop buying after about 8 figures, simply due to the ridiculous prices.

SW is a lot deeper than that.

Maybe SSC can't meet quality demands of a select few ubercollectors, but I don't think HT can meet the demand of the majorirty of SW collectors that demand a deep line at an affordable price.

I really think people spearheading these threads have only a passing interest in SW and HT would reflect that with a 10 figures in 4 years type of line.

Exactly. I don't feel like I have a completist mindset, but one thing I love about the Star Wars universe is the range of cool characters and thanks to Sideshow's price range, we're getting a variety of characters at a price that makes collecting many figures affordable.

Hot Toys is ideal for very high end figures of a small handful of characters from a property, and that's exactly what they do.

I'm all for SW and a Hot Toys SW line, maybe not all in for everything SW 1/6. I don't ever want a bajillion characters from one certain license in 1/6 scale. I don't have the shelves for that. I like to get a few characters at best and try to get them customized until they are as good as they can be. Quality over quantity for me. Maybe I'm in the minority. But for my money, Hot Toys gets me as close as possible so I don't have to spend tons on customizing.

1/6 is one facet of my collecting. Have to leave room for other stuff. I'd like just a few characters that are pretty much mini 1/6 versions of the character. Now tell me I should be collecting PFs :lol

Re: Do you think we will ever get Hot Toys Star Wars 1/6 figures?

For me if doesn't make sense as to waht people are saying by giving HT the droids and helmeted characters. Hot Toys is THE best in the biz at headsculpts and likenesses giving them droids and such would be dumb. It should be the other way around...we need to play the companies strengths here, and SS doesn't have human likenesses down by any means yet...and nowhere near the league of HT.

There can be little doubt the some SS figures look like nothing more than suped up Hasbro dolls. Then you get exceptions like Ben and palp/sidious for example. All SS has to do if fix lame ass sub par paint applications and they'd be right up there cause the sculpts are fine. (then not cheap out on clothing I.E. ANH Luke "sparing no expense" was an outright lie and laughable) They do those two things,(which shouldn't be that hard) and they'd be top ^^^^ing notch.

Surely a sign of a lack of trust? I have very little faith that the Piett figure will be much better if any better than what we have seen.

Re: Do you think we will ever get Hot Toys Star Wars 1/6 figures?

The only SW figs I want HT to have a hand in are 3PO and R2.... and Grievous...... and Chewbacca....

Wha? You mean Yavin Luke?

Re: Do you think we will ever get Hot Toys Star Wars 1/6 figures?

Bespin Luke has a really poor likeness in my opinion. Looks nothing like Hamill. I've bought every single Star Wars figure that Sideshow has made and I recently sold off all but Jedi Luke (because he was the first) Boushh Leia, Bib Fortuna, and Jabba the Hutt. They just weren't cutting it as far as likenesses and the price they are charging now for what you get has gotten ridiculous.

I'd add PT Battle, Super Battle and Destroyer Droids to that list too. HT DD would probably fully roll into a ball and everything.

Re: Do you think we will ever get Hot Toys Star Wars 1/6 figures?

I'd oppose Hot Toys getting the Star Wars figures just so I could keep listening to the histrionics that come on account of Sideshow having the license.

I suppose it could be worse. The clothes could be cheaper, the bodies made out of scale with eggshell fragility, the horrendously inaccurate sculpts masked as "stylized," with sub par accessories like plastic belts, Hasbro lightsabers and bent blasters, all for double the price. :lol

Er.....no. I absolutely adore OT and just because I have no love for PT or any of the other SW universe crap does not mean I only have a passing interest. I would buy pretty much every and any fig from OT if HT did them, I will admit I am an HT fanboy, but it is quality over quantity in my book.

why do we need a new thread about this everyday? just let SS keep doing what they are doing. i dont wanna pay $200 for action figures.

I believe I did apologise if it had been discussed before but could not find a topic in the original post. Get. Over. It.

It's either that or find another means to continually bash Sideshow. That seems to be a consistent topic in the "Do you wish HotToys would take over..." threads.

Not at all. I just wanted to guage peopple's opinions in a DISCUSSION BOARD. Scan back through the thread and check my post that I did not intend for this to be an Sideshow bashing thread.

Re: Do you think we will ever get Hot Toys Star Wars 1/6 figures?

I'm currious however. This gets ignored every time i say it. So i'll ask directly.

Do People in general STILL want Hot Toys to do Star Wars, KNOWING it would mean Medicom Loosing their liscense?

Sideshow is not going to let the liscense go, nor are they going to loose it. (even so, HOt Toys needs the asian market liscense, as they are not a US based company) the reason they will not loose it is this. Lets say you're hasbro, who is the one sharing the liscense from lucasfilm. they make money on EVERY Sideshow Star Wars product. And for the record, it's basicly FREE MONEY for them. Sideshow does the work, but as the liscense holder, they get a piece of the pie. From a buisness standpoint, knowing that Sideshow WILL CONTINUE putting out 4-5 figures a year untill you tell them to stop, and hot toys will do 4-10 figures EVER, which one makes more sense from a buisness standpoint?

Re: Do you think we will ever get Hot Toys Star Wars 1/6 figures?

I did be withholding my comments till I receive the first SW figure on a Pro. I have the SS 1/6 Indy, I must say the gap between SS and HT is definitely narrowing. :)

With the kind of price that I am paying for the quality that Sideshow offers I really don't have much complaints. I am still hoping to see more Droids and aliens from SS though.:D
