Re: Do you think we will ever get Hot Toys Star Wars 1/6 figures?
Well people like me!!
Well people like me!!
Not the same. With Hot Toys, their lack of certain characters is a result of CHOICE, not lack of ability. They have already proven they can make pretty much anything at this scale should they choose. Sideshow? It took them THREE YEARS to produce the most iconic character in this license (Vader) and we're still nowhere near them being able to do something like Chewie or the droids the way HT could right now.LOL. And HT would be biting off more than they can chew as well. Think you'd ever get a Lando with HT? How about a Qui-Gon? How about 3 different Obi-Wans? Kit Fisto is a cool figure, would HT make him? No.
I do not disagree with this at all. And it's probably the best scenario for everyone. I think Sideshow should just bite the bullet and have Hot Toys completely design and engineer figures like Chewbacca, Yoda and R2-D2.Perfect thing would be more partnership items on the figures SSC can't make.
I'm not disagreeing about HT ability. You certainly (over)pay for it, so they better have it.
And that's my point. There are figures that Sideshow can't make right now. 3+ years into the license. This is ridiculous, imho.
Whether you "overpay" for it or not is just subjective opinion... that they have the ability to make the figures right now that Sideshow doesn't is NOT.
If SSC had the TDK license, we may not have a definitive Joker figure yet... but we'd sure have 2-3 random cop guys.
Come to think of it now, i don't think Hot Toys could fit this line in and at the same time keep up with other lines, unless they had more sculptors on board.
Sculptors aren't an issue, the only issue there would be if HT had to go through the same approval crap Sideshow has to. As far as time to sculpt, Yulli said in an interview that on averae she can roll one out in 2 weeks.
What kind of approval does SS have to go through?
Apparently not much, considering figures like Utapau get passed right through.
Lucasfilm has to bless every sculpt and if they demand changes, Sideshow has to do it or they won't get approval.
Really, I had no idea. I thought that having the license meant they were free to just crank out figures. Why wouldn't HT have to go through the same process with Lucas Arts?
Well, I imagine it may be part of contracts, etc. Medicom doesn't seem to be held to the same process, I don't know if that's because they're pieces are meant to be stylistic, if they're meant to have accurracy, it doesn't seem like they have to go through the same processes for approval.
