Re: Will Hot Toys ever get the SW license?

They contribute nothing. They have leased out the license meaning their logos get slammed onto the boxes, they get a chunk of the profits and SSC can continue making figures. If Hasbro for example lost the license then SSC would as well in terms of 1/6.

It seems like what the interviews that SSC has posted they work directly with LFL, so think of them as the landlord of the license. They don't own the building nor do they dictate what can be done there but they are always around to collect some money.

This is 'zactly what I am supposin'.

Re: Will Hot Toys ever get the SW license?

Doubtful. In a perfect world, Medicom drops the license HT picks it up for the high end collectors and SS keep the domestic license.

HT produce the main characters (Luke, Han, Leia etc) SS keep keep spitting out all the variants and clones. A SW human sculpt with HT paint apps and costumes :thud:

Re: Will Hot Toys ever get the SW license?

HT wants, they've said so in the past. They continue to say so and admit their collaboration with Sideshow is a chance to have a bit of the "action". That being said Sideshow will continue to run this license until they squeeze every last drop out of it (or until Hasbro takes it back), so barring any meltdown (it can happen look at Corgi and the Star Wars license) I would say that HT officially doing characters will be slim to none as long as SSC is making 1/6 figures. Now if they stop though I don't think SSC can lease out something they themselves are leasing out from Hasbro.

The best shot for HT figures for the Star Wars license is for them to nab the International license from Medicom and then you'd have a similar situation like the TDK license with HT and DCD where the HT figures were supposed to be "only sold in Asian markets" and had to be imported.

I really dont see the Corgi situation happening with Sideshow they are smarter then that.

LFL rules on everything, they have the final decision. Talking with some people from LFL and SS I would say that Hasbro owns the license but they have nothing to do besides being an owner at this point.

Re: Will Hot Toys ever get the SW license?

Hot Toys has had the Star Wars license.

Re: Will Hot Toys ever get the SW license?

This is why SSC isn't doing Chewy or the droids yet. It would be breaking precedent by canceling a line while leaving out some essential characters.

Re: Will Hot Toys ever get the SW license?

eventually yes. And I get all of them. But there will be only the mandatory figures, HT never has done more than 5 or 6 of one license

Hot Toys' Predator figures disagree.

I doubt they'd shell out the money for this license when there's already a saturated market for Star Wars figures. Of course they'd make a Vader that would kick ass, of course their Darth Maul would blow SS' and Medicom's away, but all they'd have to do is screw up one Luke figure and then the Star Wars license would be doomed for them.

Re: Will Hot Toys ever get the SW license?

just let HT's do the head sculpts and then everything would be fine.

Agreed, Even if HT did go with the "5 to 6 figures" notion. That would most likely mean 5 to 6 from each Star Wars film. Not in total.

Re: Will Hot Toys ever get the SW license?

HT would be the only company to possibly get me to actually buy a prequel figure again.:)

Re: Will Hot Toys ever get the SW license?

In my opinion, Hot Toys is the only company that could do a 1:6 scale Chewie justice. It would actually be nice if Sideshow would work in conjuction with HT to deliver the figure the fan's really want.

By the way, I'm new here, been collecting for several years, just never knew about the site. Glad I was informed. :)

As if theyd screw up Luke ! :lol

Re: Will Hot Toys ever get the SW license?

To the posters complaining about HT only producing a few figures from a liscense before moving on, it all comes down to money. Watchmen and the Matrix, for example, were not lines that demonstrated that they could hold peoples interest. I know, I know, there are alot of fans out there for both, but not enough for figures that run as high as $200 each.

On the other hand, they can't seem to make enough Iron Man (though, that one may be running out of steam), Predator and Terminator figures to sate the current thirst.

While Star Wars may have a weak secondary market, it also has such a huge fan base, one which seems to have to buy everything that get's released (see Waxer and Boil, seriously, those fig's sold out!) that they can easily continue a line of the Characters most of us really care about. Name one other 33 year old movie that has that kind of sustained interest.

If HT ever got the liscense, I am sure we would see a great deal of characters. Would we see as many as Sideshow has released? Certainly not. After all, who among us really wants a HT version of Waxer and Boil?

This is what I hope and fear, I fear for my wallet.:(

Calling BS on this. Using Iron Man as an example just proves our point. From IM 1: No Rhodes, no Obadiah, no Pepper Pots, no Iron Monger aka THE MAIN BADDIE! Yet, MK1, MKII and MKIII - 3 variants of the same character (I'll give you Stark since they provided a head and did a suit pack). Same thing with their second biggest license, Batman. From Begins: No Bruce Wayne, no Gordon, no Fox, no Scarecrow aka THE MAIN BADDIE! From Dark Knight: Still no Bruce (head doesn't count), still no Gordon, still no Fox. And yet, we get no less than 3 Batman variants and 3 Joker variants. I'm actually surprised they even made Two Face. But that's only the 3rd Character in two films.

Yeah, they may make up to 6 figures in a line (or more) but they usually don't go above 4 unique characters. (I think their pirates line is the only one where they did 5 unique characters)

What?? The head sculpt quality is the best attribute of Sideshow 1/6. It is the tailoring, clothing material, bodies, hand sculpts, and of course paint that are all features well below standard.

Re: Will Hot Toys ever get the SW license?

Before I had bought any HT figs I wouldn't want this to happen, But one can only imagine the glory of a HT Vader, I hope they do get the licence for a limited release
