I'm sorry the Mike's sig has made me loose my train of thought you where saying something........ :monkey3

Re: Will Hot Toys ever get the SW license?

Let's be honest, the way prices are going up amongst all companies dealing in collectibles it isn't that far off in terms of matching cost. I would easily buy 10 $160 quality Star Wars characters than 50 subpar $50 characters. We aren't dealing with that large of a price difference in reality really.

The Star Wars line is deep but that isn't a necessity. I'm sure you could fans to say they want these 10 from the OT without a doubt and these 10 from the PT without a doubt and have those without issue.

The thing is Hot Toys isn't necessary to get quality. Look at Obi-Wan Kenobi or Palpatine for example. Sideshow has shown that they can produce fantastically done figures on their own, paint and all. Their QC is just a little sloppy. We can get quality figures from SSC the sad thing is that we just don't.

Re: Will Hot Toys ever get the SW license?

ok ok ok ok. reality check. how many of you collectors would actually BUY 10+ Star Wars figures a year at $160?

The thing is, it's getting closer to that for Sideshow. Average now is $90 for bascially a figure with no accessories to $125 for a well accessorized figure.

Overall, I don't think price would really hurt HT, but, price would dictate character selections.

A Hot Toys Admiral Piett would still be probably $130 or so, I don't think anyone would pay that much for the character, no matter how well done.

Once even the most basic figure costs you $130, despite quality, there are limits to what people will be interested in buying. The support won't be there.

Hot Toys could sell the most popular characters at their prices and not have issues of them sitting on shelves forever (like Two-Face), which would mostly mean the most core heroes and villains of the Saga.

An HT SW line would likely consist only of:

Luke
Han
Leia
Chewbacca
3PO
R2
Obi-Wan
Darth Vader
Stormtrooper
Sandtrooper
Biker Scout
Emperor
Yoda

Obi-Wan
Anakin Skywalker
Padme
Darth Maul
Yoda
Phase 1 Clones
Phase 2 Clones
Clone Commanders

With possibilities of Qui-Gon, Dooku and Grievous.

Re: Will Hot Toys ever get the SW license?

I don't think a SW HT figure would be less than $200 each.

Isn't that counter to this entire thread? If SSC can handle the high quality at current prices, who would want HT to take on the license at all?

I don't think any true SW fan would be happy with 10 items from the OT. Thats like 1 figure of each major character...period. No multiple Lukes. No multiple troops. No side characters. As Maulfan stated, people might buy top teir characters for $160+, but what real SW fan wants a line only of the top 10 characters?

Re: Will Hot Toys ever get the SW license?

I must not be a true SW fan. I want solid core characters (Luke, Han, Leia, Obi Wan, Vader etc.). I can live without obscure characters. :dunno

The happy path is for SS to continue making SW and HT replace Medicom making SW. A win - win for everyone. At the end of the day it is wishful thinking, the more realistic scenario is for SS to up the ante (esp. on human sculpts).

Re: Will Hot Toys ever get the SW license?

Yep, you're probably just a casual fan that wants a mixture of multiple licenses and only the major characters from each. I don't consider that as the major SW collectors. Major SW collectors care about SW and nothing else. Those are the people Lucas Film targets...and by doing so they also grab casual fans as well.

Lucas Film aims at the people that would rather have Greedo or a Tusken Raider than Wolverine.

Variety my friend is the spice of life....no single line for me. SW is awesome however, IMO Marvel > SW. Lucas wouldn't like me much I suppose....:monkey2

Re: Will Hot Toys ever get the SW license?

yep. you're not worth catering to. Lucas likes his addicts to come to him 100% of the time. :lol

Lucas a pusher huh. I don't provide enuff support to elevate his status at the PB Mansion so I am a nobody....bestard :gah:

Re: Will Hot Toys ever get the SW license?

The way most talk on here, it's as though it is one line or the other. Why can't you buy your obscure characters from Sideshow and get Primary characters from HT? The line would be expensive, which is exactly the reason to only do Primary characters. I like Sideshow, just let me get that out, but when it comes to quality, HT is as big a leap from Sideshow, as Sideshow is from hasbro.

Re: Will Hot Toys ever get the SW license?

Bull____! This is SW, they're not retarded. They know the $ involved in such a license. No we wouldn't get all the dumb characters SS is doing but i bet most would be fine with that.

We would get all the above mentioned. Plus a well done Leia that don't look like a Hasbro kids toy. Obi and Vader. And probably some PT figs as well. And like i said, i think most would be fine with that. To think HT would pull their usual way with a license that they've stated would be their most wanted to do, and knowing the $ potential is stupid. And the ones that keep saying that's what would happen are making excuses for their beloved SS IMO. There's just no way HT is gonna cut and run with such a license. STAR WARS!(IMO)

I'd say tops, 5 unique characters and the rest variants of those five. The Predator license is basically a cash cow for them, look how they handle that. They could've done all the Lost preds by now from P2, the preds in the ship at the end of AVP and all the other preds that appeared in the ship at the end of AVP-R, etc. Instead, what do they do? Cut corners and repaint the same predators for AVPs and for their latest, repainted a P1 and add P2's weapons. Anybody that thinks HT won't do the same ____ with Star Wars needs a reality check.

I don't think a SW HT figure would be less than $200 each.

:lecture:lecture:lecture I LOL'd at the $160 price people posted. Figures from minor licenses are in the $160 range. Add Hasbro royalties and LFL licensing fees and you're easily in the $180 range for a basic figure like Han w/blaster and well over $200 for Boba, Stormies and Vaders.

My main concern would be HT's QC. They've already shown repeatedly that they just can't maintain a decent form of quality control with bigger licenses like Iron Man and The Dark Knight. I'd seriously hate to see the issues their products would have with arguably the biggest merchandising license today. And for what they'd be charging, those QC issues wouldn't be as forgivable. Even by the HT pole squatters.

My point exactly. I posted originally that I don't think they'll ever get it and I definitely don't see it a necessary.

I've loved Star Wars since I can remember, while I love the Sandpeople, Greedo, Walrus Man, Hammerhead, I can live if HT were to give out just Luke, Leia, Han, Vader, Obi-Wan, Stormtrooper and Chewbacca and then call the OT a day. I can also live if they never ever touch the license other than what they've done with SSC. To say that true Star Wars fans are the ones who want third Imperial Officer from the left in the Star Destroyer scene or third batfaced alien from the right in the Cantina and wouldn't settle for the "heavy hitters" is ridiculous.

fair enough, but which ones?

I've got ZERO interest in any Luke from Hot toys that's not ROTJ, or an x-wing pilot.

i prefer Jedi or ESB Version of Chewie, leaning twords ESB

ROTJ or ANH han.

Leia, i'd be fine with JUST her costumes from Jedi ( slavegirl, Rebel uniform, Boush)

Vader, ROTJ, all the way.

But how many would only want a ANH luke? or ESB leia?
or ESB vader?

Granted, they might ONLY do every Luke, the might only do an ANH line-up.

Everyone says HT would mike SW for all it's worth, but their track history just doesn't support that.

AT BEST, i'd expect them to give it the same treatment that Medicom does. 1 figure every year to 6 months.

Re: Will Hot Toys ever get the SW license?

The great thing about sideshow having this license is we get all the core characters (which I love) and the rest (like clone variants). It allows someone like me who does love star wars to pick a niche. Mine happens to be obi-wan and clones. As much as I love HT I don't know I'd they would do that and that to me is lame with something like star wars with so many characters.

Re: Will Hot Toys ever get the SW license?

if sideshow and ht are working together
maybe sideshow just continue to improve the head sculpts and paint and we all win?

To me the best thing about Sideshow is offering characters/things like Antilles, Praji, Endor Troopers, Bubo, Mechno-Chair and such.

Generally all the unexpected choices from the movies.:clap

I think you might need to brush up on the concept of LICENCING.

Alot of people are doing price comparions on Sideshow Star Wars vs standard HT figures - its worth remember that there has been suggestions that the Star Wars licence was a bit more expensive and hence there was a bump in price due to that as well. So add another $10 - $15 onto your HT price if you really want to compare like with like.
