It's review two of a three review set covering three different Hot Toys Star Wars Rogue One figures! Tonight I'm checking out their new Darth Vader in all his youthful glory. You can find the review here:

or with the rest of the reviews at the usual:

Up next, the Death Trooper Specialist! Thanks for reading,

Great review Michael, your pictures and poses were awesome, makes me really want those damn hands for my ANH!

As for the costume accuracy from your review, the inner robes or tunic were on top of the armor in R1, exactly the way it is in ANH. I think HT was given inaccurate promotional pictures from R1 and that's what HT based this Vader directly on. Easily fixed though.

Here's Vader in R1 posted by guyver1 in the main R1 Vader thread:

Yep, makes sense. Not that easy to fix perhaps - remember, the costume ins not intended to be removed this time. I haven't tried yet...

Love the steamy shot at the bottom!

I'm playing with a new 'invention' that disperses the fog more evenly and slowly. Pretty happy with it, but we'll see how it looks with the even more appropriate Mezco Frankenstein environment next week :D

Great review...I appreciate it that you praise but don't gush...and point out the issues.

The light feature. Ugh...Almost wishing HT would just give it up. I have the same issues with the lights on the Death Trooper...curious to read how you fare with that one later in the week.

As for this Vader....I'm on the wait list so we'll see. It does look like a solid release in your shots...a good display piece. Thanks again for the close look.

Guyver1 posted a step by step disassembly in the main thread, he said it is super easy. Also, you are right about the shins, I don't get why they don't fit better. Still a great figure though.

Great review, and on a more minor note, nice to see they solved quite a few of even the quibbles on the ANH version - those terrible gloves, the slightly undersized chestbox, and redoing the belt boxes and buckle to be slightly more accurate proportions.

But wow - more than 13 1/2"... yet another too-tall Vader to add to the lengthening list of too-tall 1/6 Vaders. I think SSC ANH Vader still tops the list at around 14" but it would be great to see a Vader landing closer to the more correct 13". At the other end of the scale, we have too-small R2's like Sideshow's - you really have to wonder if it's an LFL/Disney mandate - "Vader's gotta be scary/huge and R2's gotta be cute/teeny.":lol

I actually think that the RO Vaders chest box looks too big! :horror

Yup SSC ANH Vader is taller than RO..hard to believe

The HT RO chestbox is closer to the correct size but has the "coin slots" a little too widely spaced, making it look slightly odd. The HT ANH chestbox is a bit undersized.

It's surprising - you'd think the chestbox would be one of the easier details to 100% nail.

SSC ANH Vader looks very surprised to hear that.:lol

My one silver knob on the Vader helmet looks unpainted and I have a tiny bag of similar looking parts. What's the story there?

If you are talking about the ANH Vader, then it is accurate, one of the tusks has black paint on it, and is not 100% silver.

That is what mine looks like, but it is the Rogue One Vader. Even the photo gallery on Sideshow's website shows it painted black in some of the photos.
