And with my custom marmit, which i think still holds up well
View attachment 171660

It's funny - they both look great there but the HT one (only in this pic) looks like a screen hero stormie helmet while the Marmit looks like a great 1/6 figure. I still love my Marmit but the HT is a lot better than I initially thought.

So whats wrong with this Sideshow Vader??? Looks Fantastic! FYI - I own one as well and happy with it!

Many things. And in Matrix69 fixed them all perfectly (though it uses parts from three different sources and would NOT be cheap to follow in the footsteps of.) I never tire of seeing pics of that Vader. Honestly, it looks so good it makes both the HT and Marmit troopers - as gorgeous as they are - look like toys.

So the other "Walrus Man" blaster the Stormtrooper comes with. Did they ever use it in the movie?? I don't recall. To bad the regular version does not come with the long blaster.

Used in promotional, pre-production SW pics only.

The problem with the Marmit compared to HT is the softer armor. HT has a really sharp armor and that shows very well.

Marmit's armor is also really thick edge-on (visible in several areas,) whereas the HT is closer to what it should be.

Can't wait to get the HT in-hand (when the $#%# is SSC shipping these?) to do the Marmit/HT comparison in-hand.

The armor is just beautifully done on the HT troopers, detail and sharpness is just awesome! But the marmit still looks fantastic given that its over 20 years old:)

11 stripes on the original prop vs 13 on the Hot Toys.

When you look at those two images you quoted, there are far more wrong details than there are right. In fact, I'm having a hard time picking out even one detail that IS right.

But that's not to say that the HT product doesn't look awesome.

I never understood the true definition of NITPICKING till I looked in this thread :lol

Well they got that the screw above the "ear" is a slotted screw right. :lol

I said from the start that the HT stormtroopers were inaccurate as hell but people keep saying they are perfect. No doubt they look good and I'm adding them to my collection, but they are far from accurate.

Perfect toy, imperfect replica. I could take that sculpt apart but I enjoy them too much to worry about it. If I find a match for that paint, I'd consider repainting a Marmit bucket (sandtrooper) to use, but it's not a pressing matter.

I still think they got plenty right, my biggest problems being lateral tubes and eye ridges.

I think I'll get an RS Propmasters bucket and between that and Hot Toys, call it a day on the Stormtrooper display.

I enjoy things even if they're not accurate for the most part. But no matter how much I like something, I won't say it's accurate when it's not. So let's enjoy this newest interpretation of the Stormtrooper. The first person to lift a rock to throw at Sideshow for similar level of inaccuracies better be prepared however. ;) Ridicule of their crappy base bodies never goes out of style however.

The thing that bothers me most about the HT Stormtrooper helmet is the jaw area. It's too pronounced. Not enough to make me not buy and enjoy the figure though. :lol

Edit: I see people keep bringing up the Marmit helmet as a comparison. In my opinion even the Marmit doesn't even come close to Gentle Giant's sculpt of the Stormtrooper helmet.

[...snip GG pics...]

I think Marmit's sandtroopers are better than their stormtroopers. As for GG, agreed, but I tend to leave it out of the discussion due to the weird scale (slightly smaller than 1/6) and the fact that it's a bust/statue.

I've thought of picking one up over the past couple of years, but I'm not a statue guy.

I'm not nerdly familiar enough with the source material to see or care about any of the inaccuracies everyone keeps talking about :dance

Yeah really. Remember when a Stormtrooper was just a Stormtrooper? :)
