I also much prefer the shape, including the thinness of the soles. The HT don't look like the boots in the movie, and HT doesn't unfortunately finish the bottoms of the shoes on the majority of their figures (not that there's tread on these particular ones however).

looks awesome, ZE. Great armor proportions, very movie-like!

Thank you, parras, your opinion carries some weight. :hi5:

Although the end game here will likely be a full repaint (with decals for tube stripes) I'm seeing a couple of things as I tinker with this.

The Marmit armour being not as blindingly white, almost makes it look a touch more realistic; the HDPE helmets in the film were painted, so in some light you can see a slight difference in finish between helmet and armour.

The strapping that makes the Hot Toys stormtroopers so much fun to handle and pose due to tight armour, is a hindrance to the wonky, screen-used look, so for instance I didn't strap the chest armour into place. It does make it a pain to re-pose, but the look is more authentic. You could probably just re-do the straps so they aren't as tight.

The more I look at this screen-used style, the more I want to make the armour grimy for a Tantive IV look, which may also serve to blend the slightly different tones in the armour pieces...and although it's taking it very far into prop territory and away from what was intended to be viewed on film, I almost want to simulate the white gaffer tape and other prop department mistakes, bodges and fixes

Not entirely sold on the Hot Toys shoulder bells for this custom. Their shape is too clean and regular, may switch to trimmed and warped Marmit bells, although some of that may be difficult to replicate at this scale.

I have Don Cheadle's head under that bucket, by the way. Makes it easier to pose!

If I was a Hollywood A-lister like Cheadle, I'd have begged Abrams to be in TFA as a Stormtrooper extra. ;)

Experimental WIP: Stunt Trooper, Tantive IV Boarding Party. Weathering begins.

^^ Wow.:clap THAT looks like the stormies from ANH.

If I inspired that, then I just gave myself a big pat on the back.:lol

Can't wait to see it all finished and put in front of a Tantive backdrop (I think pixelpiper did one to print out.) There's always a touch of magic when you see people on these boards just TOTALLY nail the look of a character.:yess:

Damn straight you did. :duff

This is the first run and it's just a little heavy in places, so I'll dial it back here and there and keep working with reference photos. May even do the gaffer tape now. ;)

The colour match to the naked eye is actually even better than the more noticeable difference on iPhone camera; maybe I won't have to resort to the paint, but I'll definitely resort to decals for better tube stripes down the line. This will be a long project to get it right.

It's definitely giving me the right vibe already. :rock

Thanks, dude. What's magical to me is that this morning, that stormtrooper was a pile of yellowing plastic and loose parts in a cardboard box. Glad I hung on to all those parts...

I have what I need for a No Stripes ('Set For Stun') Trooper. I could do that search party trio and get Hot Toys Leia.... :slap

No. No I won't. :horror

But this one will be a ton of fun to get perfect. :lol

(And I promise to take some photos in better light. Sheesh!)

Just got done revisiting reference shots. I know the appearance of ANH troops was due to budget and time constraints and not necessarily intentional (also far more visible now on Blu-Ray), but I have to say they work beautifully as expendable shock troops.

There is a perception of the Empire (possibly in part due to EU, I don't know) as this gleaming, perfect army. While they had newer and generally more devastating equipment than the Rebels, the beat up look of Tantive IV stormtroopers works for me as believable, battle hardened marines with less-than-pristine equipment.

A Galactic Empire to my mind, has to churn out huge amounts of mass produced weapons and armour across a vast army. I picture the armour as cheap and disposable rather than this elite super-technology as I've seen it portrayed. I like the idea of it being beat up or patched up by hard-living, hard-dying soldiers.

I really wonder if Hot Toys will take advantage of the opportunity to do battle damaged, carbon scored stormtroopers. Maybe Rogue One will prompt that...

Yeah, I'm now going to do some more weathering on my custom (which I mostly used ESB pics for.)

I'm just setting him up with my two HT stormies, but wanted to get Tama 3PO out of his cardboard coffin and into action with R2 and all these stormies. It's really fun having three stormies now - have only ever had this at 3 3/4" scale.

That is one sexy custom. Did you hand paint or airbrush the helmet?

Handed painted (with shrunken-down labels from a full size helmet) - you can see where my masking didn't quite work above the brow.:lol

Going to touch that up, expand the eyes just a teeny bit inwards and paint the edges of the "ears" then I think I'm done.

And sorry folks, last talk of customs - will be posting my HT stormie pics soon, sorry to derail thread!:slap

Is eBay the only option to get a single Stormie now? I kinda want another one to flank my Vader but all the sites I see are sold out.

I think so. Only the 2-pack still in stock at BBTS from what I've seen.

They do look good together. :)

Popcultcha in Australia has the singe and if you're in the US they are pretty good pricewise. If not they might be competitive anyway depending on possible taxation.

9x 2-packs right there. Not counting the ones you're stockpiling.

I expect to see an equal First Order army to clash with.

Actually there are originally 3 two packs in there...and I did trade one away...after ordering my cases...I emptied out 2 online store inventories and I still can't find anyone to sell me an exclusive 2 Pack with the gun rack, unless I want to pay $550...and I don't...but no rack...none on Ebay either...
