The problem with that is that most people would complain about it being damaged/wrong. Just look at how many people in this thread had asked about the mark on the upper arm armor.

That's where our opinions differ. The more " screen accurate " the better for me. I have an RSPROPS set of Armour ESB Style which I have made to look as if it has just stepped off the set of Cloud City i.e slight wear, marks scratches, paint slop etc.. Now for me if they could shrink that sort of detail down and produce a figure with all the little flaws of the original amour Duck tape and all, man I would be in SW 1/6th heaven!

I'm all about screen accuracy. But when scaling down you need to consider other things. It's ok to see some of the flaws present on a 1:1 suit/prop/armor/helmet/studio scale model, but not all of them.

EFX has scanned the prop for their lines. I have the licensed authentic prop replica of the hero ANH helmet but the one I have is cast from one of the originals, not scanned. At a Comicon panel a few years back they said they 3D scanned the helmet and I believe were doing a new line of helmets. I saw the Biker Scout helmet at Wondercon but they sold out in pre-order already. Looked awesome.

The 3D scans are out there already and I am sure more will come as I bet there will be some digital doubles for Stormies in Rogue One.

One thing to keep in mind, the props themselves are not always awesome, they do the job of completing the illusion of working gear ON FILM. On close inspection of the hero helmet for example, you can see the seams along the jaw line when looking from above and up close you can tell what is decal vs paint vs greeble where on film, it all looked like a much sturdier/functioning product.

I would rather have a 1/6th representation of what the actual character would be rather than a prop replication in cases like this. I don't want duct tape, seams, etc created down to the detail but rather what all that appeared like in a functioning universe if you will.

Yup. Same with the original light sabres. I'd rather have a blue translucent plastic rod for Obi Wan's light sabre than a bit of wire.

Nice work. Upon cursory inspection, I think it may be sculpted rather than scanned. I have direct experience with the material used .. it does have some grain/texture to it, should be easily covered by paint. I'm going to grab one and see if it's scaled right.

Well had an email today saying that it's on its way! It'll be interesting to see what the scale and accuracy is like compared to the HT version. I'll post some pics once it's here.

Cool, looking forward to seeing that.

Well.... here it is! The scale looks pretty good IMO. The sculpt / "scan" itself although lacking in fine detail is streets ahead of the Hot Toys helmet for accuracy. I think with a bit of decent paint work this could look very close to what we are all craving for, an accurate Stormtrooper Helmet. Here are some comparison pics. Let the debate begin... :lecture IMG_0857.jpgIMG_0856.jpgIMG_0860.jpgIMG_0863.jpgIMG_0864.jpg

Damn image rotation!! Oh well you get the idea:lol

It's maybe a touch small, but I think - resolution issues aside - it looks great.

When mine arrives I'll probably sand it down a touch in spots, before airbrushing. I think it may be a better candidate for a Sandtrooper or a weathered Tantive IV stormtrooper, as that could hide the imperfections in both sculpt resolution and paintwork, which will be tough to exactly match to HT's glossy factory sheen.

If the debate can begin and continue in another thread it'll make it easier for people to keep track of the respective discussions, ie official HT and custom.

I saw online that they are making a GOLD Stormtrooper to go along with the copper one. Looks cool if your into variants of this type.
