Re: Hot Toys - Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Luke Skywalker (Force Projection) - CONFIRM

Right? Not sure why this is difficult to fathom. Especially with photo evidence of there being red spots in the salt beneath him.

Because this board is full of armchair commandos trying to logic the hell out of everything instead of just enjoying the hobby.

Re: Hot Toys - Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Luke Skywalker (Force Projection) - CONFIRM

Thing is, it wouldn’t look like a Crait base without the tracks. Let’s just say it was after they changed sides.

Changing sides is irrelevant anyway. If you watch the scene, even before Luke sets foot onto the salt there’s red everywhere from the cannon blasting the door.

Re: Hot Toys - Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Luke Skywalker (Force Projection) - CONFIRM

Just occurred to me, did they decide to make it a salt planet for the benefit of Luke's lack of footprints? I originally heard it was to make it less Hoth-like (or Starkiller-Base-like).

"Its Metaphorical!"

Re: Hot Toys - Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Luke Skywalker (Force Projection) - CONFIRM

Yes, metaphorical. But, and I love the movie, the grunt tasting it and spitting it out saying,"it's salt" is pretty bad. I mean, at that point, it's such a stupidly over the top comment that it just sticks out.

That little bit was just an excuse to get Gareth Edwards a cameo in the movie.

It's not a salt planet, per se. It's a mineral planet used for the mining of said minerals, salt definitely being one. The red pretty much goes along with the red motif that we see throughout the movie, and that was used in most of the marketing.

That should be Starwars new trope, every time they visit a new planet someone tastes it and tells us what it is

They really succeeded. I mean a white snow-looking planet with ATATs battling small rebel speeders defending - along with rebel soldiers in trenches - a rebel base with a huge door (as the rebels retreat/escape) that Snowtroopers later follow a black clad Sith lord into was TOTALLY different from Hoth.

I mean so different I didn't even pick up on the Hoth connection until you mentioned it.

Fortunately they changed Crait from being a brown sludgy planet that made people wince at the smell. The trooper tasting the ground surface would maybe have clarified a bit too much.:lol

"It's ****." (other trooper frowns and nods.)

The base to me looks exactly like it should based on the screen shot.

You know it really does, lol.

Imagine if in ESB after the one Rebel Trooper zooms in on the AT-AT's with his binoculars they pull back to show two other soldiers in the trench at his feet. One tastes some snow and goes "Ugh! The yellow snow is NOT lemon." The other trooper looks at him like he's an *****, cut to Luke Skywalker and the snowspeeders zooming toward the fight.

Re: Hot Toys - Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Luke Skywalker (Force Projection) - CONFIRM

Thanks for the explanations y'all. Is it also true the switch from a snow planet was a late decision?

No, there's concepts from early 2016 of the planet with the red and the artists talking about it. Also, the leaks subreddit knew about them filming at the salt flats around the same time. If they were ever going to use snow, they wouldn't have used salt flats... or had concepts of red minerals =P lol
