All I've seen are people who are disappointed at the prospect of HT getting the whole line and pricing them out. Then again, they seem to already have that problem with SS.

I have no crystal ball, but I just don't see that happening. I would be floored if Sideshow stopped making Star Wars, it is probably the one license that generates solid income for them.

I hope its really more of a joint venture, with HT doing some like chewie and droids that seem more in their area of specialty, and that won't look out of place besides the Sideshow figures. HT taking on the line themselves would be Luke, Leia, Han, Vader and a Stormie, end of story.

The prospect of a HT Luke and Anakin could completely reignite my passion for collecting 1/6 SW. I want to collect Star Wars, but I need the flagship protagonist from either trilogy properly represented to fully commit.

:exactly: Tho I am not really into the PT a (ROTS) Anakin would be a certain buy and any version of Luke.

In yesterday's Hot Toys Q & A (posted over in General) they state they are currently making another vehicle in 1/6 scale but wouldn't say which license....

In short, HT will do figures that Sideshow does not want to do, so if this collaboration never happened, the SS purist probably would never have had the chance to get whatever figures HT would produce anyway. So, you have two choices, save a little extra money and buy the HT version when it comes out, or focus your collection on Sideshow. Nobody is losing out this way.

It's sort of like this...

I own a Trailblazer and an Equinox, but man, I would love a Astin Martin or a jaguar. I cannot afford those vehicles, so does that mean that car manufacturers should only produce vehicles that I can afford? Of course not. Let's not be oversensitive, people.

I hope my post was clear this time.

I think people who are not willing to go to $150+ figures have to hold out hope that you are right, that there will be 2 options to go to. I personally, would not be surprised if one day the only SW option is HT and people who prefer to go for "value" and not for "uber product" will be left out in the dust. In that scenario, I feel people have a right to be concerned and voice that concern. Collectors who enjoy a product SHOULD be disappointed that the product migrates out of their price range. (Remember when SSC got the license, Hasbro didn't continue their line...not sure the assumption can be made that SSC will continue theirs.)

I don't think there needs to be a fight about it by anymeans, but I think the "can't afford HT, tough sh--" response is as pointless a response as "SSC not good enough for you, tough sh--".

Again, if we continue to get SSC option AND HT option then there are winners all around, everyone could be happy. Fingers crossed.

The Aston Martin example isn't the same unless Hot Toys is the only one getting rights to make all action figures.

The only speculation I get from the article is Hot Toys will be helping Sideshow further with Star Wars, not taking over them.

:goodpost:

Until we see differently this goes along with what we've already seen (helping out with armour-- new bodies) and what's been suggested previously (Grievous etc.). There's nothing definitive so it's all speculation-- For right now SSC is doing a 1/6 SW line and I don't see that disappearing. Any help from HT (whether it's just in those difficult to create characters: droids, Chewie, Grievous etc.) is a good thing.

I think the collaborative efforts expanding is the best scenario for those wanting fuller collections. With two companies putting out figures, the checklist of unmade characters will be dealt with at an even faster pace and concerns about figures not being made before lines end will lessen.
