You are absolutely correct, but they also approved the figure so LFL was okay with this version as well. I guess my point was more that if they really didn’t like it they could’ve vetoed it.The Phase 1 501st’s markings are way more subtle across both the helmet and the armour itself. It can be seen most clearly in Battlefront 2 (2017), the developers previously stated that everything they added to the game had to be approved by Lucasfilm.
But to make it accurate HT would have had to include swap put armour pieces too.
Like you said, the TCW/BF2 example is so far highest level canon. But I do still think the Sideshow and Hot Toys version is a reasonable interpretation of what some troopers or companies within the 501st might’ve looked like at some point during the war.
But I understand that’s ultimately partially wishful thinking on my part as I personally really like the Phase 1 helmet with the Phase 2 501st scheme.
