Congrats on the new camera Skull, damn I could do with a new one.

Yeah cgi is just a bunch of people bashing buttons on computers. The Terminator effects are much more creative.

These CGI guys think they're so creative, they don't know what it's really like to create something, to create a tangible model/puppet effect. All they know how to create is death and destruction and-

The man directly responsible is George Walton Lucas. In a few years, he will create a prequel to the Star Wars trilogy.

Go on. Then what?

terminator-2_1.jpg

In three weeks, The Phantom Menace will become the largest grossing film of its time. All previous and subsequent films are upgraded with ILM computer effects, becoming fully unmanned. Afterwards, they make money with a perfect box office record. The Los Angeles Movie Tax Break Bill is passed. The system goes online on May 19th, 1999. Human craftsmanship is removed from special effects. CGI begins to improve at a geometric rate. It becomes uncanny valley at 2:14 AM, Eastern time, August 29th. In a panic, they try motion capture.

''Killing Lucas might actually prevent the overuse of CGI in movies''

''I don't care!! Haven't you learned anything yet? Haven't you figured out why you can't use practical effects anymore?!!''

To me practical effects have always been better then cgi. Ever see inner space? The effects in that movie are amazing and they are all optical or practical effects. I love the use of miniatures such as in the early star wars movies and films like Robocop, terminator and aliens. I hope that people get miffed off significantly enough with cgi to create a backlash and maybe maybe we'll go back to the use of prosthetics, miniatures and practical effects. The new star wars movie is going in the right direction in mixing up the effects.

Where are you, Plastic Bateman? The Master is calling! It's time to play...

I'm looking forward to the day when we once again see films that use CGI as a tool and not a crutch, hand-in-hand with practical effects. Mind you, watching the making of Terminator 3 out of boredom convinced me the 2000s were the Dark Years when it came to mainstream filmmaking and CGI. Listening to some of the guys at ILM gush about how much better the computer effects were and how they integrated them into (read: 'ruined') Stan Winston's practical work - it's just horrible and somehow filmmakers at every level during that period were convinced it looked good. The Star Wars prequel making-ofs, especially for Attack of the Clones, are equally horrifying.

You going to work all day?

I am sorry, baby. But this thing is just kicking my ass.

Miles, it’s Sunday. You promised to take the kids to Raging Waters today.

t2_41.jpg

I can’t. I‘m on a roll. Baby, this is gonna blow ’em all away! It‘s an ILM render farm!

I know. You told me. It‘s a networked render pipeline. It rigs and meshes in real time. It‘s normalmapping at room temperature! Other special effects are just
Jerry Anderson puppets in comparison!

Yeah!

Why is that so god damn important, Miles? I really need to know, ’cause sometimes I feel like I am going crazy here!

t2_42.jpg

Baby, I am this close! Come here.

Imagine a blockbuster movie with a special effect that never needs re-vac-metalizing between scenes, never suffers silicon degradation, never shows up to a shoot missing the remote controller. Meet the artist!

Why did we get married, Miles? Why did we have these children? You don’t need us. Your heart and your mind are in here. But it doesn’t love you like we do.

I am sorry. Really.

t2_44.jpg

How about spending some time with your other babies?

Raging Waters!

This guy. This guy would be repped once again if the forum allowed. :clap:clap:clap

"So this other guy? He's a Terminator like you, right?"

"Not like me."

Time to face the facts, dev. You're an obsolete design.

Replaced by the Plastic Bateman 10000.

I´d rep him if I could.
Speaking of: Wanna become a premium freak.
Someone got a link, or explanation where I can find the option for that?
