I bought a second one on sale so I can display the Tanker look as well as the PSO look. I plan on doing some minor customizing to it to help make him look more ****ed up:lecture

Amazing photographs, but I think this might actually have put me off getting the figure - no doubt it's a solid likeness but it looks so smooth and soft. I know people ragged on the DX10 for looking too young, but there isn't a single line or wrinkle I can make out anywhere on this except the lips - baby-smooth skin :lol

And yet still more lifelike than the real thing!

People love to rag on that puppet, but as a practical effects fanatic it blows me away every time. The whole of T1 still does, in fact, considering what Cameron and his team achieved on a minuscule budget...

...god dammit I think I'm talking myself into getting this figure again :gah:

Me too, I love the practical effects in terminator. Beats all the cgi rubbish we have to take nowadays. At least with practical effects both puppet and stop motion animation you know theres something there i.e something tangible on screen versus a blank cgi bluescreen actors are working at present. I thought terminator 2 and Jurassic park were the last movies to get the mix of live action, traditional effects and cgi perfect. Movies after that and nowadays just rely too much on cgi and nothing else.

Yeah cgi is just a bunch of people bashing buttons on computers. The Terminator effects are much more creative.

If you haven't seen Interstellar, get to an IMAX as soon as possible. The only notable CGI is the black hole effect, all the space/ship stuff was done using 3D-printed models (huge ones at that, one of them was over 50ft long apparently) mounted on six-axis gimbals and filmed against digitally rear-projected backdrops.

The result? The best-looking, most convincing special effects I've seen in years.

I try not to hate on CGI too much because I've got friends who work in 3D and the complexity of what they do is astonishing. The idea that CGI is cheaper or easier than practical effects (at least to do well) is ludicrous, to the point where I can't understand why the film industry has chosen to rely on something so costly, time-consuming and labour-intensive. Personally I'm hoping practical effects make a comeback after Interstellar - with advances in 3D printing, etc they can be taken to the next level. CGI has its time and its place and that's most definitely not for every single damn shot of a film (looking at you, Guardians of the Galaxy ).

I had the chance to pick up the DX10 for £120 sealed mint in shipper last night, prevaricated too long and missed it :gah:

I'm starting to think that was the one I really wanted because I feel so disappointed right now.

I have to say though, I think I vastly prefer the weapons, sunglasses, boots and trousers on this particular figure. Maybe I should create my own Terminator using bits of this and the DX10 and say it's from a Robocop Vs Terminator film that never was :lol
