The CM/Toynami version also has the correct finish. A very slight sheen.
Still, I think it's worth waiting to see if HT's finalized retail version will be correct in this regard.

Whoa whoa whoa [this is not my Batman glass ;)]...

The CM/Toynami version DOES NOT have the correct finish to how the car appeared in either Burton movie. The shine level of it is way too high.

You are right that it had a slight sheen in the first movie.

In Batman Returns, it was blacker, and shinier --

BatmobileReturns_2.jpg

But still not as shiny as the Toynami version is (look at how sharp and defined the reflections in the paint job are compared to the movies) --

The Toynami paint job looks to be based on the repaint done to one of the screen used cars after Batman Returns was filmed. Look at this mirror quality shine on it as it sits in the Petersen Automotive Museum.

You're right, it remains to be seen if HT gets it right, but as long as they turn down the gloss from what Toynami did (but not all the way down to matte of course), they will be closer.

Ah yes!
Geez, it's been a while since I've seen the movies. But I have been to the museum. They're so close to me after all. :)

I do recall the shine the batmobile had and just knew the HT proto was way too matte.

Thanks for the pics.

The promo on the dx09 still looks matte, the recent pictures looks way flat, but if they do a little semi gloss it would look perfect, I thought at first that this was the 1989 batman version but after seeing some batman returns gadgets throw in, I'm stoked to see the final result

Yeah, it was revealed before they announced the Batman Returns license, and in the magazine previews and at shows it is displayed with the 89 figures, so it makes sense that it is "officially / technically" under the 89 license, even though it also includes some Batman Returns features.

In the end though, because it looks to be officially under the Batman 89 line, I expect the final finish to be less glossy and less deep black than the 92 version of the car. I also expect the hubcaps and main engine intake to be gunmetal colored (as in 89) and not gloss black (as in 92).

And I definitely don't expect the Returns windsheild wipers, unless they are detachable.

Didn't he used the windshield wipers in the batboat? I did not know the batmobile had the windshield wipers, but with that said the tumbler lights up, what are the odds this would include LED lights?

Yeah the Batskiboat and the Batman Returns version of the Batmobile had windshield wipers.

I think it is a pretty safe bet that at least the headlights and taillights of this will have LED lights. Maybe we'll get some fire simulation flicker like with the Toynami version, but there are no lights in the HT tumbler afterburner, so probably not.

Do you have the 1/18 scale Hot Wheels Batmobile?

I have this one, and I think the black on this vehicle is perfect, but it is diecast, so maybe why the flat black has a different contrast

this conversation about the shine of the batmobile reminds me of when ppl were debateing the shine on vaders helmet.

Yeah I have two of those from the first release in 2003 (don't have the "battle damage" or the shiny repaints). I agree, the paint on this version is pretty good. I'd be happy if the HT version looked about this level, or slightly glossier. The canopy and the trunk are made of plastic on the HW though, so they look a little more flat than the rest of the body.

Haha yeah, all of us have something we're freaks about. :rotfl But honestly, it's more than a subtle difference between the shine level of the 89 and 92 on-screen look of the car, and the Toynami and Petersen Museum look.
