There's the rub. Fandom undoubtedly has a contingent of threatened toxic incel neckbeards as described by Rian et al ... but singling out that toxic segment conveniently bypassed the issue that they were selling inferior product.

As Favreau has said about reading the room ... if you're gonna DJ in a hip-hop club you don't play Barry Manilow and call it subversion.

(All apologies to any actual ST fans. I'm not here to change your mind.)

Yep that sums it up very well.

Haha Barry Manilow. Excellent analogy. ZE get's it !

And before this turns into a OT vs PT debate, Star Wars IMO is not a cover band which does songs from Hip Hop, Jazz, Punk Rock, Classic to Barry Manilow.

P.S I'm also not here to change anyones mind.

Wow what an article !!! Faverau has really got it. I mean it's not hard really. We nerd fans are the ones who like he says "carry the torch", and educate the normies that this stuff is something you need to see. If it's good.....

Chuck Wendig really went at it though :lol

Yeah, whoever Chuck Wendig is? Never heard of him.

But Favreau definitely directly contradicts the tone of Lucasfilm since Disney bought the franchise. If nothing else it means the dude has no fear whatsoever of Kennedy, another strong signal she is on the way out.

Chuck Wendig is an author who has done several Star Wars books in the last few years. Not all good ones either.

But yep Faverau is smart. In that interview he both appeased unhappy fans and got them even more on his side, and at the same time pointed out everything which Kennedy has done wrong. Brilliant.

Just read that interview, Favreau is obviously a smart guy who has a deep love for SW, and it shows with the Mandalorian. Plus he obviously has a deep love for the good old spaghetti Western, given that that's really what the Mandalorian is. Kind of genius really to give us the mash-up.

Personally I find it to be more Lone Wolf and Cub crossed with Yojimbo

Just preordered this one. Couldn?t stand the pressure...
So far I have preordered Mando v1 and v2, remnant stormtrooper and IG11. Probably gonna preorder the scout with bike as well... hopefully that?s it for me [emoji51]

Yeah well. I HAD talked myself out of IG as cool as he is. But then there was the Mando finale and looked at him with Mando v1 and folded.

It will be a killer set up consists of Beskar Mando + the Child, IG-11 and robust Mando in one glass shelf.

Maybe, but I just get a sort of Sergio Leone Western vibe from it all. The main character certainly isn't as amoral, but he's not really a "good guy".

Plus there's definitely little nods to Morricone western soundtracks liberally sprinkled throughout.

Then again the Leone spaghetti westerns were heavily influenced by and stylised after Kurosawa's samurai films. A Fistful of Dollars is an unofficial remake of Yojimbo. A New Hope was also heavily influenced by Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress, especially the characters of Leia, 3PO, and R2.

As for Lone Wolf and Cub, isn't Favreau on record as saying that's a big influence on the story of Mando's first season. I'm sure I remember him saying that.

There are also quite a few scenes in the first season influenced by 80s fantasy movies. Baby Yoda is basically Gizmo for a new generation.

I do kinda wonder what SW fig will be released next? There are quite a few scheduled before end of this year...IG-11, Solo Maul, Qui Gonn, Cody, Heavy Mando. If I had to bet on one it would be Qui Gonn.

My money would be on the Death Trooper.
