you gotta remember that this is the largest convention of it's kind in the world and Hollywood is a major force there now, so the idea that a bunch of really hot chicks dressed up are there just to be there is not out of the question.

There are some major players there and that's the one convention where a "beauty" could possibly be discovered. Now as you were saying if this was a hot chick at a toy train convention then you could say "pro"

Until you've been to Comic Con you have no idea how big it is or the type of people that go to it.

as far as power girl, thats what a smokin 'non model/regular girl' with big cans looks like, she wont be in playboy but would be high on 99% of all geeks lists...compared to a playmate she is nothing , compared to what you see around the office, she is pamela anderson...

and frankly, THE slave leia that everyone loves(myself included) has a nice body and is very cute but ive seen a million hotter chicks than her, she is just the best leia by far compared to the rest ...(and sadly @ 25 she doesnt have all that many years left so enjoy while ya can-@celebration 10 , she wont look like this...)

Alright, since I've worked at booths before, and my wife has dressed up for booths before (she was working at SDCC for the Funimation booth), I'll give the rundown on how it goes.

Smaller to mid-sized booths (think most stores in the dealer's area, sometimes companies like Kotobukiya) will either hire people that already make costumes, or will have an relationship with a site that can find people that already make costumes. ACParadise often sets up cosplay events with Funimation, they had some Evangelion stuff going on with Kotobukiya, etc...

Usually in that case, you work a certain amount of hours and your badge and hotel is paid for, and maybe materials for your costume. For larger events, your flight might be paid for as well, but you rarely get much payment, if any, on top of that. Generally for these people, they have to enjoy costume construction or the character, because wasting a week constructing a costume for a free convention isn't gonna pay the bills.

The large industry booths that hire booth babes just go to modelling agencies, yeah. They're paid a few hundred bucks.

The cosplay community contains a majority of women. There are a lot of men, especially at conventions like SDCC/Dragoncon that dress up, but it's not uncommon to see attractive girls dressing up at conventions. For most people, there aren't terribly deep motives, they just want to go to what's essentially a nerd party and have fun. For others, yeah it's all about attention and playing pretty dress-up as an adult.

Are there any males here who have been propositioned in or around a SDCC by a girl with a hot body but a face like Burgess Merideth? The other way around?

If I were a hooker (still, if I were a hooker still), going to a place where there are that many sexually frustrated dudes with a pocket book seems to be a no brainer.

There's lots of security at conventions, and at the larger ones, often a fair bit of actual police. It'd be pretty stupid for a hooker to be inside the convention, but I'm sure one could hang out on the street over and rake in a goldmine for dressing up as trashy Slave Leia!

I never meant to imply anyone in attendance at SDCC was a hooker. I think some of you missed the sarcasm and metaphor. I was just trying to say that I didn't think that every attractive female was getting paid to be there and there may actually be some women that enjoy this hobby and event. I know a few from this board, which is on such a smaller scale than the 125,000 at SDCC; so it isn't ridiculous to think that some of the attractive females are simply there because it's fun. There's a thought.

They can't get (or maybe don't want) gigs as professional models or actresses (or professional costume-makers), so this is the next best thing. My step-sister is one of those. Spends her free time making costumes, randomly dresses up for no reason, thinks shes a model but no one wants her. Shes downright crazy, she wants to live in a fantasy world.

In the end, I still feel there is a time a place for everything, dont let it consume your whole reality.
