Ski tried to make you Queen in another thread, so maybe you can be a momma.

The Josh said:
I'm a lot more selfish than he is.

I would feel like garbage if I let a man die at my feet. I don't see how not helping is selfish.

I would too. I would do something in that situation. I can't count the number of times at home dad has gotten out of bed to go on a call (say like 3am). He or someone else has to be awake and functional to do whatever. Menon the other hand I'm like ____ it I'm in my nice warm bed.

You cant deny the untamed awesomeness of a pony!

Good point :lol

I think the citation where a life is endanger greatly affects ones willingness to help. If a man falls over in line at Dairy Queen, most people are gonna try something to help that person. However if the same person is shot by a gun wielding maniac most people are gonna run for cover to save themselves. ____ the poor bastard that just got shot.

The amount of personal risk involved is gonna determine how people react. And that reaction is not gonna be predetermined by that person. Fight or flight. You're born with it or you're not.

Well, I am still loking for justification for the pathetic actions of this group of firefighters. All I am seeing is rationalization. And really...not very good rationaliation at that.

I think the lack of coverage by their healthcare provider from any problems potentially caused by this fire is a pretty good rationalization.

It's not the firefighter's fault. It's the community that allowed for this situation to happen.

I don't see what's so hard to understand? :dunno It sucks surely. But such is life.

Also check this out.

Remember, this guy is not a resident of the city with the fire department. He pays no taxes to that city. The service is offered by the city to outlying areas. He admitted that he had a fire there before and that they'd made an exception to their rule for him before, allowing him to pay the fee the day after they responded to a fire at his place (actually his son's house, but at the same location...Gene Cranick's words in an interview with Keith Olberman). Even after that, he didn't pay the fee the following years, saying, "I figured they'd come put it out even if I didn't pay."

He knew he didn't pay. It's that simple. Like everyone else he felt entitled to benefits and services that he REFUSED to pay for. I guess it was a matter of principal to him. Well this is what happens. I just don't see why this is hard for some to understand? Plus read the comments from Woodsy from an actual firefighters point of view. It all makes sense.

If they didn't want to put it out for him because he's an idiot for not paying, thinking people would pick up his slack anytime needed, fine. BUT, they should have tried to save the pets. Not know they were in their, burning alive, in pain. I would have at least tried to rescue the pets.

And when one of those firefighters gets injured or dies from trying to save that pet and they are told their insurance won't cover it because it was outside the scope of their job duties, then what?

Buffy I'm assuming you know my love of animals. However, the last thing they need to do is risk their lives over someones pets. It makes for a good heartfelt movie. But in real life the risks simply aren't worth it. :peace

Not to mention what Kabuki mentioned.

I am not saying risk your life, that's not really how I meant it. But maybe look for a door? Open it? I don't know. I wasn't there, I have no idea what the fire was like, don't know if there was a window they could break. Dogs and cats can jump. I am not even sure if they did this, if they tried by doing this, or if the fire was already consuming the entire house by the time they got there.

I guess all I would like to hear is the firefighters say "we would have rescued (or tried to rescue) the pets, but the fire was just too bad and we couldn't"

If they said that somewhere, then excellent. I have three cats and I know that I would do what I could to save them, but they are mine, I understand that. But I can't help fighting for pets, they can't do much for themselves. I am so mad at that man for being an a$$ and not paying his dues.

I think that's the right place to assign blame..

I have yet to hear a justification of why this man should have been provided with fire services.

Since he was to cheap to pay the $75, I doubt he had any HT preds.

Probably a cheap NECA fan.
