Hi!

I am new to the scene and I couldn't find a thread about cleaning/maintaining your collectables. I have some diecast cars that I have maintained over the years, but I wonder how these 1/6 figurine and 1/4 size ones are different.

I took some quick peek at some of the members collection forum and noticed that most are placed in shelves with no container of some sort. How do you guys/girls clean them when it gets dirty from dust? Do you just use a brush? Compressed air?

I was planning on buying some more 1/6 scale figures with cases until Hot Toys just announced all these 1/4 scale coming in the future. I am just a little afraid that if I buy those 1/4 scale with no cases, what kind of problems I can have with dust. I don't know if there are many cases to buy for 1/4 scales just as buying cases for 1/12 diecast cars.

Any advice would be great! Thanks! ^_^

I now have a few hundred loose figures standing around on shelves and my method is simple, take a section a week and dust down with a soft artist's brush. For the caked in dust a can of air will suffice!

We have a couple of older threads that you can look to for advice, check these out:

Dust

Personally speaking I've always used a range of make up brushes. A full pack of various size brushes to dust the many large and small pieces of any statue. Although I'm glad I don't have that problem anymore as everything is boxed up.

I use a badger hair shaving brush I got in an Art of Shaving kit, I dust the figures outside the glass cases about once a month and inside the cases about twice a year. I have found that if dust is left too long on some figure surfaces it sort of sticks there. Stains on plastic can be removed with acetone once you test on an inconspicuous area and use great care.

I feel much better now that cleaning them isn't expensive at all! Thanks for the tips people! I am sure it would help others too! Sister is going to be real mad when I steal some of her make up brushes. :panic:

You can also use cyber clean:

What is the best item to dust your statues?

That's the question. My parrot often fluffs up and releases a powdery down. I need to clean my statues. What is best? Can you link the website where it is for sale?
