How do YOU feel about Hot Toys re-releases?

By revisiting an existing figure by making it better is evolving. Not only are they evolving the figure but they are evolving themselves as artists by producing a superior figure whether by sculpt or articulation.

True the IM has been a bit overwhelming but I can honestly say that because of them revisiting, my Mk VI is kick___, and superior over the original mk iii, mk iii BD, and even my mk IV. Now they know how to make things work so they go back and build us a toy that we can proudly display and articulate the way we want.

Hence evolving it...

Evolving one area.

Doing Iron Man armours doesn't evolve:

paintwork on bodies
Gun making
Non-human figures
Rooted hair
Rubber bodies
PVC bodies
Tailoring
True-types

Basically 90% of the elements that make up nearly every other license.

The question is are they holding back certain things that they could do on figure A but don't do till figure D because it gives them an excuse to go back and redo figure A to C and make more money. And during that process they add stuff that figure D didn't have and then they have to redo him. Its a potentially endless cycle.

I read your post and get what you're saying, but at this point, the idea of redoing the same character a 3rd or 4th time is pure speculation. We'll have to see how this shakes out. With all of the remakes they have planned, I don't think we'll hear about any re-re-makes until 2016 or later.

Well so far of the licenses being discussed they've done...

OC Batman 3 times
TDK batman Twice with a TDKR coming soon
Mark I Twice
Mark II Twice
Mark III Twice (& gunmetal + Stealth shown)
Mark IV once (& Secret Project + rerelase withbthe Gantry)
Mark V Once
Mark VI once
War Machine Twice

Batman has been made: 5 times so far
Tony Stark has been made: 10 times so far

(There is also speculation the MK II AU body will be used for a third MK III)

Batman OC has had it's third remake
Mark III looks to be getting the 3rd and forth
TDK(R) will be getting it's third and potentially fourth (1/4)


So the point myself and A-Dev are making is that although Iron Man has proven itself a money maker, one character has been made 10 times, if they had cut that to 5 figures and made 5 different characters that haven't been made yet they'd be servicing more customers of more licenses & considering they are backlogged on licenses and figures it makes sense that the Iron Man license has taken production time away from multiple other licenses.

People will state that it's a proven money maker and makes money for them more than an unproven license, i'm not disputing that, but that license services collectors of that license, using my above example if they had cut Stark to 5 figures and made 5 figures from different licenses they'd be servicing collectors of 6 licenses.

Sideshow has good balance of licenses for it's customers and followers, they devote time to all not equally, but with very good balance, HT has very poor balance, 2 figures from one license with 20+ from others.

I don't so much have a problem with the fact that all of the various Iron Man armours are getting figures - it would be hypocritical of me to be p!$$ed off by that when I would most likely lap up every Terminator variation they put out. What annoys me is the remaking of figures that really aren't all that old, and aren't so obviously dated as to really justify remaking and maybe putting delays on other licenses. I mean if they show a remake of the clean T2 T-800 before they ever show a BD version I will seriously question WTF Hot Toys is thinking - and that comes from someone who actually doesn't think that MMS117 is perfect.
