here here, buy becasue you want to buy, not to watch them go up in value!..... if thats what you want you should quit buying toys and start on the stock market!

This hobby needs to grow, not become some stagnant backwater driven by inflated prices. The more popular it becomes, the more licenses' and figures, etc. end up getting made. It will also help keep the prices at reasonable levels and make scalping much less profitable.

You can already see it being reflected in the prices of a number of figures already.

You need to put the hooka down and have a gander at what HT's figures are retailing for. Prices are going up. Look at Red Skull. Bare bones release and less than a year ago, would've sold for $150-ish. Now they're bumping him to close to $200. How is that reflecting a price decrease? :cuckoo:

I'm not talking about current releases, but I'm hoping even they will come down or stabilize as HT grows and the hobby attracts more to it.

Well, so far the rereleasing isn't leading to any price stabilisation. Yes, hopefully it will but it remains to be seen.

Then you're naive. The whole reason HT's doing is is a money grab. They saw these pieces fetching 3x+ the MSRP and wanted a piece of it. Now, if they can do it and charge even more, they'll do so. They already have with the SDCC OC Batman.

I'd add, as they get better at making these accurate to the characters, their costs are surely going up. Economic costs on the materials have changed over the last few years too, universally. While I'm sure they're pushing their prices as far as their market will take it, there has to be higher expenses to go with that. Just the economics of our world today.

I think he means that the by-product of re-releasing old figures is that it drives the prices in the secondary market for the respective original pieces down.
Example: Iron Mark I secondary market prices are all falling now that Hot Toys is re-releasing a new and improved version of Mark I. etc.

I don't think he's trying to imply that he understands the MOTIVE or REASON why hot toys is doing these re-releases.

Now if he's hoping that hot toys will reduce their retail price for these new re-releases, then he's dreaming.

I read his posts, and responses as "prices overall." :dunno

I think the rereleases are a good thing. Before I was buying everything. Now I can wait on items. Nothing is selling out anymore, except for exclusives, and even those are moving slowly. Yay for my wallet!

I don't see the big deal but HT do need to start & finish lines there already promised as well. Like MGS, X-Men etc & I have no interest in them lines at all but it gets tiresome hearing the ones who want them moaning about it all the time but you can understand there frustration.

One thing i find annoying about this is that lately,re-issues have been a higher priority than other licenses they announced a while back, and these promises which figures they will make, but never gets finished because their time is being spent on re issuing these things.

See, that, to me, is a legitimate gripe. Complaining about the sheer amount of re-releases over a short period of time taking away from new and unique, oft long promised, product. I totally get the frustration of that, and agree that Hot Toys could do a better job of balancing their releases overall.

:goodpost: :exactly:

This is how i feel, i don't mind remakes if they are done at times when the anount of figures expected is very low, otherwise they are taking production time away from new projects and franchises

I'm noticing that as well. I'm still kind of surprised that the exclusive shadow pred is still on the sideshow website. Usually pred exclusives sell out fast. Perhaps it's the economy, or hot toys is just flooding the market with each new figure? who knows.

Bad example. Post-puberty Predator was a big fail to begin with. Much like, unfortunately, expecting a bunch of monkey-spanking Joker fanboys to be excited about a 2-face figure. It's character selection for that one. :lol

:exactly: I've adapted to the trend by no longer placing pre-orders unless absolutely necessary (ie must have exclusive). I'll wait until the item is released and production pics shown before buying. Very few items sell out (even after release) therefore, I am no longer in a "rush" to get the order placed.

It's a fine example as the Shadow Predator is an excellent figure, and his argement can also be applied to Jack Sparrow and Superman.

Ahh but Will this help or hurt Hot Toys as time goes by?

Yeah, but people happily paying huge sums over retail demonstrates the demand, so it's only logical for HT (and the license holders) to cater to that market, and charge a much fairer price while doing it. Avenger has a great point about the increased cost of materials, and more time consuming techniques contributing to increases in the final wholesale price, not to mention increases in labor costs, too. It's naive for a company not to capitalize and grow when there is such obvious growth. I just don't see how it's a bad thing for collectors and the hobby.
