I have nothing against re releases. In fact I think Hot toys re releases are pretty good since they do try to improve on the original rather than do a stupid repaint and sell it for the same price (ahem Takara tomy masterpieces).

The only complaint I have is the exorbitant prices of hot toys. Makes it tough to keep up.

Collecting is supposed to be fun. It is fun to find a valuable and rare item and pay a lot of money for it because of it's rareness and value. It is also fun to get figures of characters you like. I had more fun taking trips to Target, TRU, and Wal-Mart looking for figures than buying Hot Toys and finding out they are not rare and not valuable. The figures from the retail stores are also pretty much worthless, but at least that's how the prices started.

I understand to a point. The thrill of having something unique is cool but considering any type of toy as an investment isn't wise. :dunno

A toy (any item) is only worth what someone is willing to pay therefore, buying these items is always a gamble in terms of "value." I could buy a figure today for $200. Within a year a new fad comes along replacing 1/6th scale ultimately devaluing the figure just purchased. Look at the for sale thread in this forum, items selling below retail.

I'd like to think if I sell an item I can break even at best. Eventually this market will run its course and we will be left with figures that won't be worth the value paid. Therefore, people should buy for enjoyment otherwise, they may wind up disappointed.

I'm cool with this. Buy what you like since this stuff could be worth nothing 10 years from now.

Bring on ALL the rereleaes you want HT! Many missed out on originals and many NEW collectors are starting collections...anything to broaden 1/6 collecting is a plus!

I was happy to see the Tumbler up, and I did order. But I do think its wrong to do re-releases. I think the high end ebay prices help collectible companys. But it seems the collectors mind set is changing. No longer caring about limited stuff. Its probably due to how cool the stuff coming out is. But when people are buying this stuff at high prices and the secondary market starts to be worthless, it may crash the market. Overall I'll be me cautious when buying a HT item, due to re-releases. Exactly canceled a few pre-orders I had. Couldn't pass on the Tumbler though, thats an awesome piece.

HT doesn't give a HOOT about collectors...cripes.
They are out to make the MOST money in the SHORTEST time they can while there is a market for this stuff. That is why they are suceessful. Long term interest probably not even seriously looked at...

With all the people getting the tumbler, HT wil see this as a success. Then SS will follow.

i've been collecting hot toys figures since their Terminator Kyle Reese was first released. i've watched as they've re-released figures with improvements, battle-damage, and everything in-between. i'm excited that i'll be able to get the Dark Knight Batmobile for retail. i've been kicking myself for a couple of years after cancelling my order for the first release.
bring 'em on, Hot Toys!

oh, and i've only paid above retail for one HT figure. other than that, if i pass on something, i just let it go, since i know the chances are good for an eventual re-release.

I'm always happy to see a figure getting another release. I personally did not buy any of the Aliens Marines, I've kicked myself ever since, but no way would I spend £200-£300 on em. With any luck they'll one day revisit Aliens :)

I don't think re-releases gets in the way of new products, since the new stuff needs R&D and etc.

I never buy stuff after market anymore, you can never tell if it'll get re-issued plus a better version is likely to come anyway.
(ive made that mistake :slap)

It always depends on what is getting re-released or re-done for me. The Iron Man figures, for example, are a bad use of re-releasing a figure. The new Mark 2 unleashed looks great, no doubt about it, but its not like there were many problems with the first version. The OC Batman (TDK release, not the new one with the Bale sculpt) is a good idea however, because it improves drastically on the one from Batman Begins.

Basically I don't like when they do it for the sake of making a quick buck. I do like when they realize they can improve on an older figure and then that allows the fans a chance at a great collectible and they still make money.
