Well, OK, but you're rationalizing big-time. Again, the average AmerJican smoker spends about $300 on his habit.

Now, how much do you spend on this hobby-habit annually? And be honest.

You think so? If I was to smoke it will be about a pack a week. I see co workers bumming cigs from other smokers. We are already looking at $300 a year. Add alcohol if I was to drink socially at about 20 a week we will need to add about $1000+ to the tab. This does not count any other random stuff that I would have to pay due to me drinking and smoking. Who knows, I might act a fool if I was to drink and get into trouble.

I'm not justifying it at all but we're already looking at $1300 per year as my base cost. What do I gain out of it? Call me a nerd all you want but I'm happy collecting my figures, haha. The wife does not mind it as long as I remember to take her out on a nice vacation every year.

In regards to how much I've spent, it's about $2-3k per year. If I was to end this hobby I can at least break even or take a minor loss. This is probably why I love this hobby so much.

Average pack of cigerettes in the US is around $5. Two packs a day(heavy smoker) $10 a day = $3650 a year.

New York is as high as $11 a pack

Well, if you look at it that way, you could save tons of money by cutting everything out—except your hobby. Think how much money you could save if you stopped eating and bought figures instead! :lol

I quit smoking a year and a half ago. And I cut back on my collecting too. And I don't seem to see any increase in my available funds. I should have all this extra smoke and doll money laying around, but I don't.

Just spend it. You could die tomorrow and someone else will take everything you have and throw most of it out.

It's not easy. And less so when you have other expenses, dog, kids, wife etc.
There are times I know I'm an idiot for blowing money on this stuff.
When I could be saving it, using it for something more important, or a great vacation or something.

At times, this is a pretty useless hobby that wastes money lol
And I'm saying that being a collector myself.

add to that, that going to the club costs like, from 20 to 80-100 depending what night club you go to and how many night clubs, tips, some people do it every weekend, so that can add up to some 400bucks a month or the club alone, without the drinking

that's just silly. you Dont need alcohol to survive... or smokes, like food, in reality drinking and smoking make you sick and shorten your life, i mean sure drinking can make you have a good time, but doesnt take away the fact that is harmful, and not necessary to your life, like food would be.
I am not trying to be preachy or anything, no, just saying that some people like buying booze and smoke and spend their time and money on that, and some people buy plastic and rubber dolls, that's all. but booze and smokes and clubbing does add up to a lot.

It is not about smoking or boozing.

It is about having a social life. There are many social activities that do not involve smoking or drinking and they all cost quite a bit of money!

You certainly could afford to buy anything you want (even that fancy porche 911 turbo) if you hole up at your parents house without paying rent or amenities, come home straight from work and don't go out and eat nothing but instant noodles and play computer games all day for recreation.

But where's the quality of life?

How do you know me so well? :lol

i dont drink or smoke,
does that make me a loser? i was talking specifically about booze and smokes, only, this whole time ive been saying, those two habits can be costly, I don't have them so i can spend on some figures,
of course, people would say that going to clubs is cool and buying toys is nerdy and stupid. but even if i didnt buy toys i would still not drink or smoke, i have nothing against people that do. i just never found joy in them.

im not saying one is better than the other either, the only difference is that the figures can be sold later, the booze/smokes can damage the body, that's all really, if people enjoy drinking then that's okay,

I just don't need alcohol to have a good time, I hate Hate being drunk, hangovers, drinking is just awful to me,

Have a good paying Job. And My wife understand my nerd-ism. 30 years old, no way could I buy this stuff at 19.

Having a good job is probably the best way to afford things. Well, maybe winning the lottery is the best, but chances of having a good job are higher than the lottery.

I am a lawyer in Southern California, which pays pretty well, but I'm also married with 2 kids. Even with a good job, I have to pick which pieces I want the most. No completism. I also find that as my tastes change, I can sell off older pieces in my collection for ones that I feel I want more. I am into displaying my collection, so if I have a piece that hasn't been displayed in a few years, then I probably don't need it in my collection and will sell it to fund future purchases.

Yes, the good job could afford a lot of things. I´m actually the Purchase Manager of a very big steel company in Brazil. So I can buy my figures and my PS3 videogames, and I also have a beautiful and understanding wife that likes and encourage the hobby, giving me sugestions and even asking for figures in the shelf, like the Jack Sparrow DX...
