How many pets is too many?

For some people 1 is to many. It depends on your space and your own set of circumstances. :lecture

True that. I've seen people who can't take care of even one hamster, where someone I know has 9 rescue cats and takes really good care of them. You have really nice goal. I guess it balances between how many you can give full care versus getting overwhelmed. I once found 4 kittens in my wall behind washing machine wall and was suprised to see how many animal shelters where willing to put all of them to sleep without even seeing them. It took me 2 days to find a lady who took them to her care. Don't feel too guilty about not being able to take care of all of them if you can't. At least you are doing something about it.

My in-laws have a crazy amount of pets, they are both really "bleeding hearts" for animals and have rescued 20 cats and 3 dogs. Surprisingly the house smells great and the funny part is you rarely see them except at feedings which is weird.

.

The law in CA is no more than 3 adult dogs unless you have a kennel license, and you have to be in an area zoned for a kennel license. I knew people who were dealing with this. One person had a kennel, and another didn't, and had 5 dogs. The animal control inspector would come around and knock on the door to hear how many dogs would bark to tell how many were there. This woman would hold two mouths shut to prevent them from barking.

We don't have any limits on anything other than you can't have stock animals inside the city limits.

The law varies from place to place, yes. Do you live in a rural area, if you don't mind me asking? I imagine that the restrictions would be lowest in the country.

I live just inside the city limits due to annexing. I live in farm country though.

Restaurant across from me has hundreds of cats one week, then none the following week, then a hundred again, rinse repeat.

They must be really good at finding them homes, I commend them for being awesome neighbors.

Well, 4 is our limit and we wont be getting anymore until they pass. We've been able to care for all 4 as equally as we did when there were 3.

Zoe however had gotten really, really sick after her spaying and we weren't sure if she was going to make it. We had to feed her with a syringe to get her to eat and she just didn't want to move. But luckily we were able to bring her back! She's doing better.

AND we're back to Zoe being sick. Jenn is on her way home so we can take her to a different vet. She had Rabies Vaccination today and has done nothing but shake and bite herself. She can't rest/sleep because she's freaking out. Pray for my baby!

buffygirl..i love animals.i stay away from the pound and pet stores because i would take kittens home with me if i could. i have one 8yr old indoor and a 14 yr old and 22 yr old outside cat.it's your call on the kittens. But you have people who can't stop having kids that they can't take care of how can i tell people it's the same as the animals. the cat's and dogs suffer in the long run..i know in california there is a place called cat on the king river or something like that. they will adopt or take kittens if you can't take care of them. it is a no kill sanctuary..also they do take donations and animals food to take care of animals. that's if you live in califiornia..

Ditto. It's nice that people are empathetic for these animals, but taking on too much is unhealthy for not only the owner, and its home, but for the animals as well. Some people need to also have common sense as much as an empathetic heart. As much as I would love to adopt and take on more animals, I am but one guy, a student, who has a small house. A lab/border collie and two cats is enough. Would I like to take on another pet? Absolutely. Should I? No. I have to be realistic. Taking on another pet at this point, not only stretches my budget, but it puts stress on all the living critters in the home, including myself. The new pet means less time for the others. Time management definitely gets effected. Do you have the time for all these critters? As it stands, I am fighting to make time for all three pets as it is. But I make the time. Also, it is more to clean up. Too many negatives vs. positives. Sometimes it's good to practise being realistic. What we can manage. Realistically, honestly manage.

Isn't it always the case, when mass of animals like cats and dogs are associated with a restaurant? C'mon man! Keep up with your stereotypes!

The dog called the Chow originated in China, where it was raised specifically as livestock for food, and alternatively, it was used as a guard dog. There is a reason why the Chinese are stereotyped as eating dogs, because when you develop a breed of dog for just that purpose, you earn it.
