New forum rule

Regarding unlicensed product.

Fully produced pieces offered for sale that could infringe on licensed collectible companies will not be allowed to be shown any more.

This is not targeting the customizer who wants to show off his work - we encourage that and want to see it. However if the customizer posts a 1/6 figure and then starts taking orders for copies of it - it won't be allowed.

If someone commissions an original portrait sculpt and shows it on the board this is fine. You can even ask people to PM you for more information. But finished figures can't be sold in mass quantities nor can recasts of commercial sculpts.

If there are any questions about this policy, please post them here and I'll do my best to answer them.

Re: New forum rule

Does this mean anything that has a copyright can't be sold as a custom in any quantities larger than "1".

Specifically, what about pinkerton foxes awesome "IT" clowns/sculpts. That's a copyrighted license, but no one is distributing the product, and the work is his own. Would those be allowed to be sold on this board?

Serious question, not trying to start anything up.

Re: New forum rule

Yeah, this needs clarification. If we can't have any more custom comissions here, then this is a huge thing!

Re: New forum rule

"Interest" threads for anything will also not be allowed.

So we as a group, can no longer commission an artist to do a custom 1/6 sculpt?

One person has to do it and then sell it themeselves?, because that will never happen. This just ended alot of cool custom work from coming through this board and ultimately happening at all. Just sad to see you give into the likes of the d-bags like Chris Howes.

That just plain ^^^^ing sucks.

Re: New forum rule

I can understand the fear of any legal reprocussions, but i don't think the "making money off visitors" as a bad thing flies as imo it it part of the reason to come here. Personally, I support if the owner of a site being used to make money would like to share in said profits however.

Couldn't edit the post above, this is what I would have liked to say...:lol

I can understand the fear of any legal reprocussions of using this site as a marketer of unlicensed product, but i don't think the "targeted audience to make money off the members here" as a bad thing flies as imo it is a part of the reason some come here. I don't think the Howes situation was the reason for this. I think that the unlicensed customs being offered could open the board to leagl problems. I do hope this does not mean the end to the various custom heads that have been offered.

yeah dose this mean no more custom 1/6 head???:horror

As stated in the above post, custom 1/6 sculpts heads will still be allowed to be shown. But soliciting members for a group custom for a sculpt that has not been created yet is not allowed. We've all seen that sort of thing just doesn't work.

Re: New forum rule

If they really want to get their work into the hands of collectors, they can submit it to Sideshow or whoever the official licensee is. I'll even help them with the contacts.

Because I hear they hire about 10 artists and sculptors a week... And how great for the artist who will have to make only what people at SS tell them to, only to see their work destroyed by poor production and shoddy paint apps and get next to nothing for their work.

so if the head done we can buy it from the artist or customizer???
and what about the orders out now:confused: are they over??

Re: New forum rule

i'm not a huge customizer or customer of customizers myself, but I can't help but think this is a huge REGRESSIVE event for the board. I can smell mass exodus of customizers and thus their customers. :( Not sure if the rule is right or wrong, but I think thats the end result.

Theres the way it is and the way it reads. This reads as Dave didn't know how to handle the Chris Howes situation, not that it was his responsiblity to handle anyway, and thus to avoid further complications of this nature we will now all suffer.

Re: New forum rule

I don't know anything about the so-called Howes incident, nor am I huge customizer, but the way this new rule reads and how it will be enforced sounds like, in the end, might come back to bit this forum in the rear. Just my opinion, but when reading this rule, it sounds a little bit rushed.

Re: New forum rule

So for example, any of Zuno's threads regarding figure commissions, Serang's commissions, z(numbers)'s head sculpt commissions, etc, are not allowed?? Can they be done via PM?

What about custom headpaint or full figure commissions? Can we still solicit the likes of Rismo, smallstudios, and elvis1976 (to name a very very very small selection) to have our heads painted and figures commissioned?

This is huge. I'd say more than 50% of my time on this board is relating to commissions of some sort or another.

I don't think repaints will be affected by this.

But that it SS and other official licensee company don't make what we want half the time (don't get me wrong the make great stuff)..... but Look at Firefly, Blade Runner, the Crow, "the Dark knight" Gordon/Fox ,or The Professional ..etc. We been bug them for years for these and were still wait (Gee it only took 25 to get Ghostbusters) and custom or bootleg is our last resort.

Re: New forum rule

im actually pretty sad to read this as the customizing on this board is actually what drew me here. i guess it flew under the radar for many years when it was kept at a small scale but the customs section seemed to grow & grow and garnered more attention & the whole commission situation where people felt they were ripped off didn't help matters at all. it seemed to have brought unwanted attention to a place that didnt need it.....:sick

You have to admit that there is sense in that, going by recent events.
