That's where the joke lies. McFarlane could probably make a better Robo now too. I have both and I still find $70 to be a huge price difference. McFarlanes price drop is more due to it not being as limited in production and readily available where HT Robo isn't.

Comparing a $50 toy to a HT toy is like comparing an expensive car to a cheaper one. You are still only going to get from A to B. How much you want to spend depends on your disposable income.

The HT head looks 'funny' too. Its very elongated and is overall too big in relation to the body to be film accurate. McFarlanes has the opposite problem, the head being too squat, round and overall a little bit small.

NECAs 18" is the most accurate looking in terms of proportions, unfortunately it manages to look 'cheaper' than either HT or McFarlane because of the paintjob. I also rule it out for the OP because its the wrong scale for his Ed-209.

Again, I'm not sure what massive difference in quality some of you guys are seeing between HT and McFarlane Robos. Both have problems. I agree with whoever else said it - if HT were to do Robocop now it would be much much improved and I'm sure I would easily choose that over McFarlane but not necessarily the current ones. I only bought a HT Robo on impulse and because I wanted a non-BD version in 12'' scale. I'm glad to have both.

There are 2 versions of the NECA, one has a more shiny paintjob and looks great.

Bought the McF's one for $20 today..and while it's like all my other McF stuff quality-wise, it's still a fantastic item and goes well with ED.

Mods...feel free to close this if you wish.

Hot Toys Robo's head looks weird to me. Not bad, just weird.
I would go for PF Robo if I was gonna spend 180 and up. The head is equally as weird, but the base is kick ass.

I like this thread too, it's been helpful. If someone had pictures of the improved paint job on the second run of the NECA one, that'd be interesting to see!

this is the more metallic shiny version.

The neca one looks great. How tall is he? HT is just costing so much, but I want a robo... :monkey2

The Neca version is 18inches and has some decent articulation in the legs, arms, waist, head etc..and it has motion activated sounds from the movie, i think there was two different paint jobs released..i have the first one i would say..more grey blue..these had some bad paint apps when released..maybe the second type is better but, i don't like the mouth paint on that last pic of the Neca..i will post pics of mine soon, i applied Taiyama gloss to mine from a can, looks better.

i own both and my favorite is...

both.

oh, and someone please send me their HT ED209.

I have all 3. HT, Neca and Mcfarlane. Best bang for your buck, go for the Mcfarlane. The paint job isn't amazing like the HT one but the details are really amazing. It is one of my favorite Mcfarlane 12" figures. And if you can get it for $20 bucks, it is totally worth it.

Yeah but the shoulder and hip joints on the NECA look retarded too and its 18'' - hardly anything goes with it.

There is no definitive Robocop. They each have something not quite right. I think the OP should buy according to scale - therefore McF or Hot toys. Then decide how much money he wants to spend.

Thanks everyone for their input. I think the best option for me since I do not need superior paint job, or a more poseable figure, i'd get the $20 Robo from MCfarlane.

Thanks "ilikefreestufftoo" for the photos. If that is in-fact the HT robocop next to the mcfarlane...i'm kind of embarrased at it's quality.

Great input guys..you rock!

You're welcome dude. The McFarlane Robo isn't bad for the price. I would never spend more than a $100 on any HT Robo even though I love Robocop. I got mine for a cool $60 because of a slightly broken piece on the shoulder.
