I ABSOLUTLY HATE having Hayden Christensen at the end though.

I liked it. It made a lot of sense to me that he appear as 'Young Anakin' because that is when he 'Died' and ceased being Anakin and became Darth Vader. It made no sense to show an old man who never lived to look like that or be that age.

So Shaw was the physical manifestation of the evil Darth Vader. And when "Vader" died, it was Hayden's spirit that returned to his physical form. Is that right?

Those that say young Anakin should not be at the end, well then a WHOLE old Anakin should not be at the end. He had his arms and legs chopped off before he died, so he should just be a glowing stump ghost :lol :rotfl :rotfl :rotfl Thanks alot Force!!!! :rotfl :rotfl

If you notice the Anakin at the end of ROTJ has no scars.
Hey I never picked up on that. Now I like the ending even better. :) As for the debate over which ghost is better, just pick the DVD that has your preference and go with that one. :peace :D

I like Hayden because it syncs up with some insight into his character given by the 1983 ROTJ novelization; that he was ashamed at his state on the Death Star and wished that Luke could see him as he was in his prime. As a ghost he got his wish.

Plus the Hayden ghost really plays up the redemption theme of his story arc. That everything that happened from the time of his fall and after had been spiritually "erased", or cleansed if you will. Really cool.

I totally forgot about that part of the ROTJ novel. He is remembering himself young and confident and tastes a tear on his lips and thinks it his own and then remembers that he cannot cry or something like that and that it is Luke's tears... Its been awhile but I remember something like.. Maybe someone with the book can actually type that bit out for us to read. It really does sort of spell it out as George's intention all along.

It seems that way. Agree to disagree right? At least we both win in the end because there are TWO versions! :lol

Yep, I finaly have MY original movies so if sombody else likes the SE better then more power to them... its all good in my book.

I prefer the SE and i grew up with the originals.

Me too. I might also add that my oldest boy laughs at the original ending of ROTJ, my youngest cried because he wants to see the "real Anakin" ghost, and they both insisted on watching the SE ROTJ after we'd watched the original because they felt I had cheated them and showed them something that wasn't really star wars.

/ducks behind Seth.

lol
Well for me i have just seen them so many times on TV when i was a kid over and over and over.(they needed updating IMO,and i'm glad they got fixed)Some of those fixes not everyone will agree on but overall i'm glad it was done.

I like Jar Jar in TPM, I don't mind the dialogue between Anakin and Padme *that* much...but I find the original ewok celebration embarassing. What does *that* tell you?

I like a lot of the changes and added effects--and the quality of the original trilogy non-anamorphic transfer just doesn't compare to the SE DVDs.

/gets in the back of the line

But have you watched the original ESB yet tom? I'll take the original colors over the upgraded SE clarity for that one.

SE ESB is the one that I thought was perfect in every way.

The SE of Empire had the least work done to it. (Why mess with perfection.)

The new wampa shot was fine with me but not really needed. (I'm just glad that they didn't insert a CGI wampa.) The Cloud City shots were inconsistent and distracting. Fett's voice was fine the way it was, but I don't mind the continuity correction--besides, accents are genetic. The Vader's shuttle shot isn't needed.

But I'm glad they fixed the editing goof where Chewie is howling and the Echo Base doors close out of sync with the audio.

And I actually like seeing McDiarmid as the Emperor in the transmission.

Also the added inclination that Vader was lying to the Emperor about knowing Luke's identity. (states in the begining that Vader is obsessed with finding young Skywalker but when the emperor asks him about he is like "are you sure it is the son of Skywalker? I had no idea such a thing was possible). ;)
