I guess it is open to interpretation, :dunno
it is very physically demanding more than some other sports even, or at least just as demanding as any sport

No one is saying it's not physically demanding.

Martial Arts by very name are arts, yet they're considered sports. :dunno

I would consider martial arts a sport. But ballet - I just personally consider that more of an art form.

I don't know then, I would think it is a sport :dunno

Gymnastics has a heavy balletic influence, especially the floor routines, yet that's also a sport. :huh

Nam is right though, If Ballet is not a sport, it damn should be then, :dunno
you do not risk shin splints or knee injuries when painting or drawing,
ballet requires a lot of strength, practice, discipline,

I think it might not be regarded as a sport because there are no big ballet competencies like in sports, it is not treated as a sport therefore people do not considered it one,
but it is still a sport imo.

Well - when they allow ballet in the Olympics I will consider it a sport. :lol

Curling, bowling and golf are considered sports and both take less effort than straining for a poop. :huh

Hell, T-ball, Base Ball, American Football, Bowling and tether ball are considered sports and they're not in the Olympics.

No one is saying ballet doesn't take great skill, discipline, effort, etc...

Baseball, football, bowling, etc...you are competing. That's what it is about...competing against another team or individual. Yes, there are some ballet competitions...but ballet is more performance art. If I am going to see the Pacific Northwest Ballet perform The Nutcracker - I do not consider it as going to see a sport, like I would the Seattle Mariners.

**** the Olympics.

You're just mad because, like, almost everybody and their grandmother beat Canada in just about everything. :lol

I really don't see a difference. They're all athletes. :dunno

Yup. Ballet is a fine art, and that's all there is to it.

so all it takes to make ballet a sport is being in a competition?
that's it? that's the reason it cannot be considered a sport?

it that is the case then fine, it is not a sport, all it needs is to be a competition
but Archery should not be called a sport either, Fencing is much more less of a sport than ballet,

for that matter,
how the hell, is this, a sport??? yet it is in the olympics :cuckoo:

But people compete against each other in judo, karate, tae kwon do, boxing etc. These are all in the olympics too :rotfl Competition suggests it is a sport no?

I personally would consider martial arts as a sport for that reason. I took tae kwon do and once you became a green belt you were physically competing with other individuals.

But ballet....no one I know who goes to see a ballet performance would consider that watching a sport.
