Are they things that can be verified independently of your own, private experience? A person can have an experience as clear as day and it be 100% a product of their own minds. They don't have to be crazy to mistake a phenomenon of their internal experience for an phenomenon of their external experience, and just because they experience something does not make it a phenomenon of the world beyond their imagination.

One of the most significant characteristics of things in the real world is that they tend to be observable by anyone who is conscious. If it's exists, then it can be observed. When someone claims that a thing exists which cannot be observed, as a rule I'd say they either dont know what they are talking about, or they are lying.
You're my kind of skeptic, Devil. :)

I tend to agree with you, but I still think that just because we can't see (observe) something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. But, you didn't answer my question: Is there anything you don't have confirmation of, but still believe anyway?

I heard a scientist say something a while back that impacted me quite greatly. The US justice system (and many other justice systems) are based off of facts and evidence. Where do they get their "facts"? Eyewitness accounts. Yet, eyewitness accounts have proven time and time again to be extremely faulty. It's sad that we base the fate of others off of such things. Luckily the evidence part makes me feel a little better, but still.

No. Nothing.

Microbes are too small to be seen with the naked eye, but once the microscope was invented, they became observable. I'm not saying that not being observed means a thing doesn't exist. I'm saying that so long as a thing is real, it has the potential to be observed. A thing which does not exist cannot be observed.

But when a thing is observed by one, and it is not possible whatsoever for another to observe it, I'd say that the thing does not exist. There is no reason why it would be observable by one person and not another. If, as people contend, there are 'special' senses that only some people possess, then the burden of proof would be on those claiming that special senses exist.

I know of no such proof. I'm pretty sure no one does. If they did, the proof would be available for anyone to scrutinize. It isn't.

If the material evidence doesn't corroborate the eyewitness accounts, and the accounts are still held as truth, then that's just bad science. No two ways about it. It would be sad. And dishonest too.

So because you have no conscious confirmation of it, i.e. because you are not aware of it, then it must be true?

No not exactly, just saying that "I" believe that there are certain things that cannot be explained, so therefore "I" believe in them.

Nothing to do with proving it to someone or making someone else believe it or proven.

I see that trap you laid down for me :lol :nono

Hey Ski, fresh episode of Paranormal State tonight. It's about a location in Alabama where shadow people have been seen. Also, another EVP recording of "Leave!" :horror :rock

Just to let everyone know, I posted a pic of Admiral Ackbar from Star Wars saying "It's a Trap" in response to this posting. It posted fine, but then showed a picture of a guy making a rude comment and a bandwith message. I in no way knew that this is what would happen and I didn't mean to offend anyone. I guess this was the way the website owner was protecting his pics.

Me sowee. :(

Thanks to DarthNeil for bringing this to my attention and Six for jogging my memory of even posting a pic in this thread. :duh

I SAW it! The photo of the shadow man was freeeeeaky!!! And then Ryan getting pinched--way too creepy...and I did not like the way that guy was describing how the shadow man was toying with Ryan. Made me look away and go back to my knitting...

And also...the commercials that kept being shown...about the woman with long black hair and no eyes....YIKES!!!!! I guess that's for next week. I'm so there.

I didn't know this stuff was on Netflix. I'll have to look into that!

If you two have a problem I suggest you use the ignore function rather than turning a lively debate and interesting thread into a shooting match between 2 members trying to have the last word and outwit each other.
Please do not continue this as it simply ruins things for others.
Many thanks

.. to think "we're" the only beings on this earth and in this realm is an arrogant, close-minded state of thinking...

.. there are other things out there that we are unable to directly observe. You can count on it....

They also believed in peace and harmony and goodwill to all, but that's hardly applicable here either.

Heh...All but the veterans coming home from Vietnam. ;)

Okay, I'll shut up about that now.

Does anyone have that photo of the "shadowman" that they can post? Ghost pictures are interesting. My favorite being the famous one on the staircase that nobody can disprove.
