It's left unclear. The guy is obviously, well, a psycho, but how much of that gets acted out in real life isn't known.

Precisley! The guy is clearly demented but I tend to believe the whole thing is some sort of a fantasy playing out rather than it actually being acted out

I don't actually think ALL of it is in his head, though. Most of it, certainly. But I just don't think a guy could be that out of it mentally, with that much rage, and not have a little bit leak out.

To me, the book made it seem like more of it actually happened, whereas the movie made it seem like most of it was fantasy.

I will be honest and say I really am unsure, it is never really made clear what is and isn't fantasy :dunno

However this all adds to the awesomeness of the film

Oh yeah, definitely. I'm not saying "well this murder has this evidence to support it" or anything, I guess some just feel more plausible. Like the homeless guy (a scene, despite being in a movie filled with senseless violence, is one I usually skip because it is SO depressing).

I think Patrick had a giant ego and couldn't stand the thought of Paul Allen being better or one upping him, so when Paul leaves town, Patrick uses the oppurtunity to convince himself that he did kill Paul, in order to satisfy his own ego and want for revenge without the consequence. And from there he just loses control and continues spiraling into insanity convincing himself he's doing all this other insane stuff until he realises Paul is alive and he was just going crazy. But then I believe from there, at the end, its possible Patrick will begin to actually act on his fantasies.

The one thing with Paul being "alive" is that they make a point the entire time to show you that no one knows who ANYONE is, they're all constantly mixing people up.

While I do think Paul is alive, the fact that Paul doesn't know who Patrick is, Patrick's friend's are mixing up a diner at the beginning, etc... so an eyewitness in that movie isn't overly credible.

Yea I agree, which is why I think Patrick has that realisation that he can get away with it now for real. He sees that no one took him seriously and thought he was joking, they were too self absorbed to notice anything was wrong. He basically goes out of his way to tell people he's gone insane and is a murderer, or messing with a detective, and they just laugh it off.

Btw that screaming bloody head would be mental, I would really love to see Adam sculpt that. I would pay extra, whatever it takes.

What if we got a small number of people like 5 or so, willing to pay alot more for a screaming Batman, would that do anything?

I agree it would be insane to get that!!!

the screaming head is a must....id pass on the wayne sculpt for the screaming sculpt in a second...

that face with the raincoat and axe! WOWW!

i dont wanna get off topic here but its been bugging the hell out of me. SPOILER ALERT!!!! does bateman get away with all those murders at the end?? i was lost at the end! was he hallucinating the whole time?? WTH?? someone explain to me!!!!!

oh and im in for a head. thanks!

That is the whole beauty of the ending. No one really knows. Except of course for the agent trying to sell the apartment who almost seems to know that Bateman knows what happened (the extent of to which is unknown) but would rather just lie to make a quick buck in Yuppytown in that particular times' economic circle.

Hey anyone need a "Who's Neil" suit for their Bateman figure? I bought it for a planned Bateman years ago... but lost interest in making one.

Its a pretty nice blue pin-stripe suit; not 100% accurate, but has a good Bateman feal to it IMO. This is the figure I'm referring to:
