Peckinpah's Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid was awesome while taking some real historical liberties.

Re: [iminime] / Trevor Grove - *Secret Project* The Cowboy ~ SCULPTS REVEALED ~

I'm with you. Pretty good character, memorable performance, but the movie wasn't a masterpiece of its time or anything. There are lots of great westerns out there (including the Leone films with Eastwood), there are even a handful of great modern western films, but I wouldn't place Tombstone among their ranks.

Yea, it was a good movie, not anywhere in the realm of a masterpiece but it grows on me a little more every time I see it. Of all the characters from the movie though I do think that Doc is the one and only that deserves to be realized in 1/6 and is enough of a representation of the movie for me. I know that people want Ringo and Earp but I just can't see that; especially for Rainman money. Russell was OK at best and Biehn barely had screen time and barely impressed me as a villain in any sort of way. But different strokes....

I think a lot of how certain movies hit you is very dependent on how old you were when you saw them. I seem to be the only one who loves Young Guns around here and prefers it to Tombstone by FAR. I would kill for a Rainman Billy The Kid. I get that this is the quintessential fictional western that really stretches and breaks all historical truths and just Hollywood's the s__t out of the story.... but I love that flick :lol

Sometimes the custom piece outweighs the source material in the minds of some. There was someone who said he is getting Moe's Dude stuff even though he has seen, and doesn't like the movie or character! Seems like a couple of people were getting Anton despite never seeing the film.

I watched No Country because of all the heat Anton was getting. . . didn't much care for it, and it turned out I had already seen it. I had just forgotten about it because I just never got the point, I assumed I had only seen bits and pieces. Turns out, yup, I did see the whole thing, I just didn't get it.

:dunno:lol

To me it's a masterpiece. To each their own, I guess. :peace

Makes me want to ask what you think of "There Will Be Blood". Not trying to be a movie snob. Just curious of how we all like different things.

No, I get why people think it's great. It seems very method, and carefully constructed and all that, but for the most part, I like my movies to be "not so heavy" sorts of things. The movies that tend to be "Oscar bait", I don't like.

As to "Blood", I haven't seen it in a while. . . but, I remember not thinking much of it. I started watching it the other day, but I'm one of those "OOOH, shiny" types of folks, I just don't like sitting there watching a movie when there's not something exploding or bright flashy lights.

Having said that, there are certain "artsy" movies that I like. Off the top of my head. . .

Closer
Lost in Translation
Rushmore
The Graduate

I'm not sure if Drive counts, but I like that one.

A few weeks ago, I started watching Lincoln. . . got bored about an hour into it, and started watching Expendables 2 and was highly entertained by that one.

But in my defense, I am a big Godfather fan.

Re: [iminime] / Trevor Grove - The Cowboy ~ SCULPTS REVEALED ~

Fair enough. I like all those that you mentioned. But I also like the ones with exploding stuff! :lol Oh, and I recently watched the new Evil Dead and loved it.

Re: [iminime] / Trevor Grove - The Cowboy ~ SCULPTS REVEALED ~

I doubt that the Coens ever went into making a film thinking, "we're gonna make us some Oscar bait." But I do get why No Country is a divisive film (as are many of their films).

Re: [iminime] / Trevor Grove - The Cowboy ~ SCULPTS REVEALED ~

After pondering my response for a bit, I realized that the music is what really seals the deal on movies for me. It made me think of another movie that has a killer soundtrack that I didn't mention, The Assassination of Jesse James. That movie puts me right to sleep, but I really enjoy watching it. I'm not sure if I've ever watched the whole thing in one sitting.

It's funny because I remember a while back, I had trouble sleeping so I put the soundtrack on to help me go to sleep.

All of the movies I really enjoy have defining moments with music, or iconic moments that are accompanied with specific musical moments, and that goes for just about everything I like, that ranges from Donnie Darko, Anchorman, Inception, Raiders, Star Wars (duh!), Scott Pilgrim, Godfather. All those films with Drive, Lost in Translation, etc. are almost as defined to me by their music as much as the image on the screen.

Re: [iminime] / Trevor Grove - The Cowboy ~ SCULPTS REVEALED ~

Talk about a movie being defined by the music, that is one of the many reasons that I love The Graduate.
