Re: [iminime] / Trevor Grove - The Cowboy ~ SCULPTS REVEALED ~

You pay almost 700$ shipped and you get knock off body, boots totally off, and paint to be improve. The figure is nice and could be awesome. I hope there won't be a rush on this. Delivery time is august so I can't understand some parts of the production being finished. Anyway the sad part is it will sold out in seconds or minutes with or without those rectifications.

Re: [iminime] / Trevor Grove - The Cowboy ~ SCULPTS REVEALED ~

That is my worry as well with trimming. They may make the figure's toes point up in the air when the heels are down.

The hands are the first thing that have gotsta go.

Exactly my point. The front of the boot will have a more dramatic upward arch and still would be too round and fat.

Re: [iminime] / Trevor Grove - The Cowboy ~ SCULPTS REVEALED ~

These little nit-picky things are why the entire wardrobe should be shown to the community in the design/pre-production stages. I think I can safely say that everyone interested in this figure would have accepted a delay if it meant more accurate boots, etc.

Re: [iminime] / Trevor Grove - The Cowboy ~ SCULPTS REVEALED ~

I think there's room for improvement here for sure. Dane has the eye hopefully Denny will listen to his feedback.

Aside from the mentioned problems with the head and paint bringing out too much age and the boots which we are stuck with, what bothers me about the poncho is the material choice the outside looks nice but the inside looks cheap by comparison, the color is off and the print does no look as nice on it.

Vest and pants look perfect IMO.

And the shirt overall is weak I think... The fit might need to be adjusted so its not so poofy And i wish denny would use something other than the cheap velcrow to fasten it.

As always please have Denny look into shortening the neck, all of his projects look like giraffes.

These little nit-picky things really should be squared away in house and should be done to an accurate, quality standard without any of our help. That's the place that Iminime needs to be already. We're all looking at the same source material so for them to many times miss what we catch is just :google  :google  at this point already

But then, folks do the same with Rainman (particularly with sculpts). Is there any custom artist in existence that produces pieces folks couldn't potentially quibble with on the final product?

Re: [iminime] / Trevor Grove - The Cowboy ~ SCULPTS REVEALED ~

Quite honestly Dane I don't think that shortening the heel is going to solve all problems. Don't get me wrong, the heel should be shorter just to respect the screen used prop but it won't make the boot itself any less thick. As YB just said it has a work boot Timberland type shape. Western style boots should be much thinner, longer and sleeker.

My other question is wouldn't shortening the heel throw the look and balance further off kilter?

I'm surprised that these are all made already. I would've imagined that you guys would've caught this in it's early stages before the whole run was complete.

The bulk/shape of the boot is a result of production limitations. Chad doesn't have access to custom sculpted boot soles (ie Rainman), so we had to work with what was available.

The sole is ABS, so if it needs to be reshaped a tad to accommodate the shortened heel, it's possible.

There was nothing to catch, these boots are the best that could be delivered (short of the recently available 3D sculpting).

I've spent a tremendous amount of time over the past 8 or so months trying to make sure this figure (boots included) turned out as awesome as possible with the resources available. This will likely be the last project I involve myself with. Not worth the stress and disappointment (not in the figure).

Also, I'm seeing a lot of negativity towards the outfit, and very little articulation as to why (thank you for taking the time, Ray).

True, but the luxury of these *unofficial* low-volume/high-quality customs is that there isn't a window of opportunity that closes due to licensing agreements. They can take as much time to get a project right as needed (within reason), and yet just hours after releasing the initial pictures, the community has found multiple instances of things that should be corrected.

That tells me that iminime isn't as concerned about the attention to detail as they are about moving onto the next available project.

This gets to my point really--I think the biggest issue isn't that Denny or you guys didn't catch the things others are. It's just that Denny doesn't have Rainman resources to throw at these figures.

To your specific question, the shirt and pants just look kind of cheap to my eyes. I don't know why exactly, but something about the way the material falls? Also, those buttons look big. But this is standard with Iminime vs. Rainman or even Hot Toys, and as axe has previously stated that material is very pricey so they have to make concessions, I am assuming that is the problem here.

I for one, do want to say that I appreciate you and axe having the input you did to get this figure to the state it is in. And I am excited about this figure and think it is great overall. Like others have said, one of Iminime's best looking releases all things considered, if not the best.

Loving everything but those boots. Just too big. Decisions, decisions...

Re: [iminime] / Trevor Grove - The Cowboy ~ SCULPTS REVEALED ~

Look I'm the biggest rainman fan in the world bu the truth is, Dane and Denny topped his offering there's no two ways about it. Are there room for improvement? Of course! but in all honesty it's a pretty strong offering compared to rainman's

The jeans/pants from Rainman's were not even close and his poncho was one sided. The vest was also weak. I'm very very impressed with the vest and jeans on this especially given iminime's resources, they really look top notch.

I replaced my rainman blondie with custom pants, and a vest and poncho from Scott though.

resources are a big part of it and I think all involved did a great job with what they had, it's why i was pretty sure to give feedback i thought could be implemented. Obviously rainman's shirt was better and most likely had more expensive fabric sourcing but I think that iminime's can compensate for that with some simple tailoring fixes and getting rid of that long Velcro fastening on the front which makes the front of the shirt stiff and not hang properly.

the only thing i may have been a little snarky about in my negative vibes was the long neck because it continues to drive me crazy.. i mention it every time and every time I still find myself sanding necks down... such a simple fix on iminime's end!

And I think it needs to be acknowledged here that a big reason why th small accuracies are so much closer to the film source than other iminime offerings is due to dane and axe's involvement. It's nice to see Denny use us as a resource and they have been great influences and i think it really payed off. Bravo! I still think some room for outside opinons so he doesn't have to catch all our *****ing right as stuff is going into production would still really be a smart idea on his end. Afterall Rainman shows us stuff along the way...

Agree 100% on poncho and shirt comments. That velcro needs to go

Marf, you're taking the criticism too close to your heart, everything is a learning experience, and if you choose to continue to involve yourself with future custom projects, all you can do is take what you've learned with your previous efforts and apply it to the next one.

Everything you've done to make 'Cowboy' a reality is an accomplishment, and something you should be proud of, despite any criticisms to the final product.

Thanks, Kara, much appreciated. I can't help but take the criticisms a bit personally, although I know I shouldn't.

Regarding the sculpt's paint, here is a pitcure of the final paint sample that was shown before the proto pics (for comparison purposes):

Regarding the outfit, I think some futzing will help (as it always does), but even without it, I think this figure has Rainman's beat in every department but the shape of the boots.

Re: [iminime] / Trevor Grove - The Cowboy ~ SCULPTS REVEALED ~

Man, it kills me that sculpt is only available to DX sets. :thud: :gah: :cuckoo:

Yes, but I'm just talking about the investment of quality of the materials that, in the case of the boots, would have apparently allowed for more screen accuracy (I guess the guy working on these boots couldn't have sculpted and cast his own base for the shoes first but had to go with something else on the market?). Whether or not his figure was completely accurate is another issue. Rainman doesn't usually solicit the kind of behind the scenes input that Iminime had here, which is, I suspect, why you saw some of the issues he had with his Blondie.

But I've had several Rainman and Iminime pieces in hand, and the quality of the clothing are night and day. But you can tell just looking at it.

Re: [iminime] / Trevor Grove - The Cowboy ~ SCULPTS REVEALED ~

I don't feel so bad about not being able to afford either one now i've seen the finished figure.

I really liked the unpainted DX sculpt when it was first shown, more so than the regular sculpt, but the painted version seems to have lost something.

The boots do look a bit chunky, rather like the Triad female boot feet. Battlegear Toys does a really nice pair of Eastwood boots, i've got them on my custom Blondie.

Yup! The truth is I think we all know what an asset Marf was to the project, Denny is an asset too and gets a lot of negativity too but we are obviously all big supporters.

I don't think the negativity reflects on Dane in the slightest, in fact I truly believe without his input people would be complaining a lot more even with the superstar team of Trevor Grove and Denny... people will ALWAYS have nitpicks.

The only harsh and hopefully constructive feedback I have towards Denny/iminime is the following, it's been said time and time again, not by just me but others and I really think they are simple things he can do to his process that will alleviate all of these negative reactions off the get-go:

1) More WIP or piece by piece shots... I know we got a glimpse of the head here but when you do a one off prototype of say a pant or a shirt or an important accessory, getting feedback initially to implement it in round two saves for future disappointment on both ends

2) The photography and unveiling of the figure needs a lot of help. More importantly than the photos is the styling/posing and futzing of the figure in the shot. You can improve the overall feeling dramatically with proper still life shots. I do this for a living so trust me I know. If you present a 5000 dollar product but shoot it like it's 5 dollars, no one is going to want to spend more than 5 dollars on it. On the contrary it's also possible to shoot something that cost 5 dollars and make it look like it costs 50 000 dollars... lighting, working with a proper stylist and more time posing will really help out a lot. It's often why when I look at iminime projects I can see how it will look with proper futzing so I don't sweat it, but most do not have the ability to see through what is being presented to them that's why there's jobs out there or people like myself ;)

3) The thing i mentioned about the necks... not sure why this happens each time.
